minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nSad news out of Hollywood this week:<\/p>\n
Val Kilmer, a veteran actor best known for roles in 1986\u2019s Top Gun in 1995\u2019s Batman Forever \u2014 passed away on April 1.<\/p>\n
He was 65 years old. <\/p>\n<\/noscript>Val Kilmer has died at the age of 65. RIP. (Getty)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThe star\u2019s daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, spoke to the New York Times and said her father died due to pneumonia.<\/p>\n
Val Kilmer made his final appearance on film in 2022\u2019s Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to the aforementioned classic. <\/p>\n
The actor reprised his role from the original movie in this hit project, sharing an emotional scene with Tom Cruise.<\/p>\n

According to a December 2017 article in The Hollywood Reporter, the actor\u2019s two-year fight with this disease had \u201ctaken its toll\u201d on the family.<\/p>\n
This piece noted that Kilmer had undergone a procedure on his trachea which made his voice raspy and left him short of breath.<\/p>\n
He didn\u2019t make many public appearances, or take on many jobs, in his latter years as a result.<\/p>\nVal Kilmer in his legendary role from Top Gun. (Paramount)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cI have not had a tumor, or a tumor operations, or any operation I had a complication where the best way to receive care was to stay under the watchful eye of the UCLA ICU,\u201d Kilmer said in a Facebook post after he was spotted in 2015 with a tracheostomy tube. <\/p>\n
\u201cI am praying for a speedy return to the boards as they say. God bless you all and please don\u2019t worry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Over the course of his career, Kilmer appeared in numerous legendary films\u2026 including 1988\u2019s Willow, 1991\u2019s The Doors, 1993\u2019s True Romance, 1995\u2019s Heat and 2005\u2019s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.<\/p>\n (Instagram)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nOutside of acting, Kilmer had a passion for visual arts, working with both photography and paint.<\/p>\n
\u201cSee ya, pal. I\u2019m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker,\u201d Josh Brolin wrote on social media after news of Kilmer\u2019s passing went viral.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts.\u201d<\/p>\n
