Haddix, 55, became tearful as she admitted guilt to three felony charges\u2014two counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(I\u2019m glad) that we were able to negotiate a fair resolution in my client\u2019s best interest,\u201d Haddix\u2019s attorney, <strong>Justin Gelfand<\/strong>, stated. \u201cShe looks forward to putting this behind her.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/socialitelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/tonia-haddix-photos-03312025-02-1160x653.jpeg\" alt=\"Tonia Haddix\" class=\"wp-image-112389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socialitelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/tonia-haddix-photos-03312025-02-1160x653.jpeg 1160w, https:\/\/socialitelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/tonia-haddix-photos-03312025-02-800x450.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/socialitelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/tonia-haddix-photos-03312025-02-860x484.jpeg 860w, https:\/\/socialitelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/tonia-haddix-photos-03312025-02.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1160px) 100vw, 1160px\"\/><\/noscript><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photograph by Courtesy of HBO <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Throughout multiple years, Haddix faced accusations of maintaining dangerous and unclean conditions for the seven chimpanzees under her care, plus fabricating one chimp\u2019s death to secretly retain the animal.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Hal Goldsmith highlighted how Haddix previously gave false testimony about faking her chimpanzee Tonka\u2019s death. Chief Judge Stephen Clark referenced specific instances where Haddix proclaimed her innocence on her podcast, \u201cwild + tame,\u201d alternatively known as the <em>Chimp Crazy Lady Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Haddix) clearly obstructed the administration of justice\u2026 there was evidence that Tonka was alive, and the court acted appropriately and issued orders that Tonka be taken from the defendant,\u201d Goldsmith said following the hearing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals<\/strong> (PETA) had voiced their worries since 2018 regarding both animal welfare and public safety, especially after one chimp escaped in 2020.
