Paige Spiranac<\/strong> has had enough of the rumors regarding her 2015 Dubai Ladies Masters appearance.<\/p>\n \u201cThere were constant comments, like, \u2018I did sexual favors to get this invite,\u2019 and I was listening to it \u2014 and they would say [it] within earshot of me. It was tough,\u201d Spiranac, 32, said while speaking with Mel Rid<\/strong> and Kira Dixon<\/strong> on a recent episode of their Quiet Please!<\/em> podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was my first pro event \u2014 it was really difficult,\u201d she continued. I just wanted to be liked and I played so bad. It was horrendous.\u201d<\/p>\n The model was a rising social media star and online influencer known for posting photos of her somewhat sultry golf outfits when she received a sponsor\u2019s invite to the tournament \u2014 what many at the time thought to be above her level of play. Spiranac \u2014 who was 23 at the time \u2014 said she understands why her appearance at the tournament may have \u201cruffled feathers\u201d within the golfing community.<\/p>\n \u201cYou work your ass off, week in and week out, and here comes me and I just walk on in,\u201d she told Rid and Dixon.<\/p>\n Spiranac also admitted in the episode that she was not ready for the media frenzy that accompanied her appearance.<\/p>\n \u201cI ended up going viral and this was back when people weren\u2019t going viral all the time and I didn\u2019t know how to handle it and my whole life got flipped upside down,\u201d she said. \u201cI went from having 500 followers to 100,000 followers.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cI got this invite to play an LET [Ladies European Tournament]. I had just turned pro, I had never played golf outside the country. And everyone was like, \u2018It\u2019s low key, don\u2019t worry about it. No one is going to know if you play well or not.\u2019 I show up and was doing hours of press, which I wasn\u2019t prepared for. I had no training to do this. And I would say there were a couple of girls who were really supportive and who were nice, but the majority \u2026 it was brutal. I would go on the range and girls would just scatter. No one wanted to hit next to me.\u201d<\/p>\n Spiranac ended up shooting 77 and 79, missing the cut required to continue on in the tournament at the time. But it\u2019s how she was treated during the tournament \u2013 and the rumors she was forced to endure \u2013 that she says impacted her the most and left her suffering from depression.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, that was, like, the worst moment of my life,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget that.\u201d<\/p>\n
