Music has helped Carly Waddell<\/strong><\/a> heal following her divorce from Evan Bass<\/strong> <\/a>in more ways than one.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been a singer my whole life. When I wasn\u2019t in a show, I was waiting tables until my next show. So I didn\u2019t really know who I was besides that. And then I became a wife and then I became a mom and I kind of lost that part of me,\u201d the 37-year-old Bachelor<\/em> alum exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> on the \u201cHere for the Right Reasons\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cBefore I got divorced, when I knew I didn\u2019t wanna have any more children, I was like, \u2018I wanna get back to me.\u2019 And when I asked the question, \u2018Who am I? What do I love?\u2019 It\u2019s music, it\u2019s singing, it\u2019s writing.\u201d<\/p>\n Waddell\u2019s first single, \u201cYour Friends Like Me More,\u201d and music video drop on Monday, May 1, and despite the sassy lyrics \u2014 \u201cI don\u2019t care who you\u2019re dating now \/ Your friends tell me she\u2019s a big step down \/ I ain\u2019t keeping score, but you should know your friends like me more\u201d \u2014 she promises Us<\/em> that she\u2019s not throwing shade at Bass, 40.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d Waddell told Us<\/em> with a laugh. \u201cAnd I love that she writes about her life, but I was coming out of a divorce and that\u2019s literally the last thing I wanted to think about. People can say whatever they want \u2014 they\u2019re going to anyway. But no, I didn\u2019t want that. I remember when I sat down with these writers and they were like, \u2018We should write about your divorce.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018No, ew. I don\u2019t wanna even think about that. I want the fun \u200bpart of me to come back out.\u2019 I was like, \u2018I want Shania Twain songs!\u2019 I knew people were gonna [assume], especially when, you know, some of these songs like \u2018Make a Guy a Jerk,\u2019 but there are guys out there that are jerks, you know? It\u2019s not about Evan! People can interpret however they want to \u2014 they\u2019re gonna do it anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n Waddell and Bass met on season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise<\/em> and wed in 2017<\/a>. The duo, who share two kids:<\/a> Bella, 5, and Charlie, 3, announced their split<\/a> in December 2020. (The Bachelorette<\/em> alum also has three sons from a previous relationship.)<\/p>\n She told Us<\/em> that there\u2019s only one out of six tracks on her upcoming EP that is \u201c50 percent about\u201d her life.<\/p>\n \u201cNothing really is personal at all [in] the other songs except for this song coming out called \u2018Two Little Angels.\u2019 That\u2019s really about my children. It\u2019s also about, like, in a relationship should you stay together just because you have kids or not. And it doesn\u2019t give an answer because I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a correct answer for that,\u201d she explained. \u201cAt the end of the day, you\u2019re left with these beautiful children and it\u2019s the greatest gift you could possibly have. \u2026 There\u2019s a lot in there that I added in for a dramatic effect that didn\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n Waddell describes the other tracks as \u201cboat songs\u201d or \u201csummer party\u201d anthems.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018Drinking Game\u2019 \u2014 that one\u2019s really fun too. But there\u2019s a song called \u2018Just Work\u2019 that\u2019s about like, \u2018Man, it\u2019s just so easy. This relationship is so easy,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cAnd there\u2019s a song called \u2018My Kind of Woman.\u2019 That was the first song that we wrote. And that one\u2019s really cool too because it\u2019s really just like, let\u2019s all band together and just be badasses.\u201d<\/p>\n
