Remi Bader<\/strong> is finally opening up about her weight loss<\/a> and the procedure that helped her achieve it. In a March 2025 interview with Self<\/em><\/a>, the model revealed that she underwent a form of bariatric surgery called single anastomosis duodenal-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S) in December 2023. The surgery is a newer procedure, and many fans of Remi were curious to learn more about it.<\/p>\n A SADI-S procedure has two steps, with the first being a sleeve gastrectomy, a.k.a. gastric sleeve surgery, according to Mayo Clinic<\/em><\/a>. This is where part of the stomach is removed, creating a tube shape. Then, during the second part of the procedure, \u201ca section of the small intestine, known as the duodenum, is closed off just below the new stomach sleeve. This opening below the new stomach is then connected to a part of the lower small intestine, called the ileum. This is the duodeno-ileal bypass.\u201d<\/p>\n Mayo Clinic notes that the \u201cbypass routes food through only about 10 feet of the small intestine, instead of the usual 25. This means there is less time and distance for the body to absorb fat and calories.\u201d<\/p>\n A SADI-S surgery can range in price, but it tends to fall on the higher end of bariatric surgeries, according to GoodRx<\/a>. The outlet lists the procedure at an average price of $20,000 before insurance coverage. However, the total cost of the surgery can depend on the length of the hospital stay, surgeon fees, complications during surgery, anesthesia fees, geographical fees and more.<\/p>\n In her interview, Remi revealed that her surgeon recommended the procedure because of the model\u2019s binge eating.<\/p>\n Dr. Christine J. Ren-Fielding<\/strong>, surgeon and head of the division of bariatric surgery at NYU Langone Health told Self<\/em>, \u201cNobody wants to have surgery. [Patients] usually come to me when they\u2019ve tried every option to lose weight \u2026 diet, exercise, inpatient weight management centers like Duke.
