The 63-year-old actor is to play newsman Edward R. Murrow in the Broadway adaptation of his movie ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ and he explained he is at a stage in his life where he now has the “gravitas” for the role, which he didn’t when he directed the 2005 film, which starred David Strathairn.<\/p>\n
But George explained that also means there are roles he once played that he no longer feels suited for.<\/p>\n
Speaking on ’60 Minutes’, he said: “Murrow had a gravitas to him that at 42 years old I didn\u2019t \u2014 I wasn\u2019t able to pull off.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, I\u2019m 63 years old. I\u2019m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men. That\u2019s not my job. I\u2019m not doing romantic films anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe ‘Ocean’s 11’ actor doesn’t think he’d have been able to tackle a Broadway show before now.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI don\u2019t know that I could\u2019ve [done it before]. I wasn\u2019t \u2014 I didn\u2019t do the work required to get there.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI mean, there isn\u2019t a single actor alive that wouldn\u2019t have loved to have, you know, been on Broadway. So that\u2019s \u2014 that\u2019s the fun of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nGeorge recently admitted he “didn’t think he had much of a chance” with now-wife Amal when he first met the human rights lawyer – who he wed in 2014 – because he is 17 years older than her.<\/p>\n
\nHe told the New York Times: “I wasn’t really in the market for being a dad. Then I met Amal and we fell in love.<\/p>\n
\n“I have to say that, after that, everything made sense.<\/p>\n
\n“[When we first met] I was like ‘Oh my God!’ Then I didn\u2019t really think I\u2019d have much of a chance with her because I was 17 years older and she seemed to have everything she needed.”<\/p>\n
\nThe former ‘ER’ star addressed his age with Amal – with whom he has seven-year-old twins Alexander and Ella – on his last milestone birthday<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “I had this conversation with Amal when I turned 60.<\/p>\n
\n“I said, \u2018Look, I can still play full-court basketball. I can still run around. I can still do pretty much everything I did when I was 30. <\/p>\n
\n“But in 30 years, I\u2019m 90. There are some things you\u2019re not doing [at that age] no matter how many granola bars you eat.”<\/p>\n
\nThe Hollywood actor added that he had to explain to his wife that he wants to “jam in” everything he can over the next few years, even though it will mean stepping back from working as much.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “I told Amal, \u2018We have to focus on the next 20, 25 years of making sure that we\u2019re jamming in everything we can. Not just work, because no one at the end of their life goes, \u2018God, I wish I worked more…'”<\/p>\n
