Former Yankees<\/a> player Brett Gardner<\/strong> and his family are dealing with a devastating loss after his 14-year-old son died<\/a> while on vacation.<\/p>\n \u201cWith heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation,\u201d Brett, 41, and his wife, Jessica Gardner<\/strong>, wrote in a statement<\/a> shared by the official Yankees social media account on Sunday, March 23. \u201cWe have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st.\u201d<\/p>\n The couple described Miller as a \u201cbeloved son and brother\u201d who loved several sports like football, baseball and golf, and said that he \u201clived life to the fullest every day.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe are so thankful to all who have reached out to offer support and encouragement during this difficult time and we are confident our faith, family, and friends will help us navigate this unimaginable loss,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cOur prayers go out to Miller\u2019s teammates and friends, as well as to all other families who have lost a child far too soon as we share their grief. Please respect our wishes for privacy as we mourn and search for healing.\u201d<\/p>\n No information has been released regarding Miller\u2019s cause of death or the nature of his illness.<\/p>\n The Yankees organization shared their own statement regarding the teenage boy\u2019s shocking passing.<\/p>\n \u201cOur hearts are heavy, and the Yankees family is filled with grief after learning of the passing of Miller Gardner. Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss. It wasn\u2019t just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years \u2013 so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller,\u201d the message posted via X<\/a> read. \u201cWe grieve with Brett, Jessica, Hunter, and their community of family and friends in mourning the loss of Miller, who had a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature.\u201d<\/p>\n The statement concluded by adding, \u201cOur love for the Gardner family is unconditional and absolute, and we will offer our enduring support while understanding their desire for privacy at this time.
