And she says Lilley was an important figure throughout her childhood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Little House family has lost one of our own,\u201d Gilbert wrote on Instagram today, adding that Lilley was \u201cone of my favorite people on the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe taught me how to ride a horse when I was just a wee little thing. He was so patient with me. He never said no when I would bound up to him squealing, \u2018Can we go ride? Please, please, please?&#8217;\u201d the actress wrote.<\/p>\n<p>She also recalled Lilley\u2019s \u201cabsolute brilliance in the film <em>Blazing Saddles<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DHdnXelOWmb\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>Interestingly, Lilley and Gilbert were reunited years after Prairie came to an end, when they were both cast in the pilot for a series titled <em>Then Came Jones<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa recalls that she was \u201cso bummed when it didn\u2019t get picked up,\u201d but still grateful for the experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was all very synchronistic. Our first read through was at Paramount Studios, where we had shot Little House the first four years. Then I walked to the set itself and before I could even focus I heard a familiar voice holler, \u2018Hey Halfpint, you old rat-a\u2013!!\u2019 It was Jack,\u201d she writes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was our wrangler for that pilot and by his side was Denny Allen, who had been our wrangler on Little House. In that instant, I knew I was home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert concluded by explaining that Lilley \u201calways felt like home to me\u201d and offering \u201clove and prayers\u201d to his family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe lived quite a life.
