Emily Deschanel<\/strong><\/a> isn\u2019t Team Angel or Team Spike because she\u2019s never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em><\/a> \u2014 despite all the years she spent on Bones<\/em> with David Boreanaz<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s just one of those things that I never watched Buffy<\/em>. I know people were obsessed with it and loved it so much,\u201d Deschanel, 48, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Tuesday, March 18, while promoting her and Carla Gallo<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cBoneheads<\/a>\u201d podcast. \u201cThere are classes in colleges about that show and all that. That genre is not something that I generally gravitate towards for whatever reason.\u201d<\/p>\n Deschanel wasn\u2019t well-versed in vampire slayer Buffy\u2019s (Sarah Michelle Gellar<\/strong>) love live, which included relationships with vampires<\/a> Angel (Boreanaz) and Spike (James Marsters<\/strong>), but she said that benefited her when playing Boreanaz\u2019s opposite on Bones<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was actually helpful when I auditioned for Bones<\/em> that I wasn\u2019t, you know, starstruck or intimidated by David in that way,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI mean, there\u2019s a little intimidation because I knew who he was. I knew those shows. It wasn\u2019t like I was living under a rock, but I wasn\u2019t starstruck.\u201d<\/p>\n Deschanel noted that not watching Buffy<\/em> before auditioning for Bones<\/em> \u201chelped me get the job\u201d and later \u201chold my own with David.\u201d<\/p>\n She remembered that Boreanaz, 55, \u201chad a lot more experience\u201d than she did at the start of the series, since Deschanel had never \u201cdone a TV series\u201d up until that point.<\/p>\n \u201cI wasn\u2019t, like, a drooling fan of his either. I think that was helpful,\u201d Deschanel said with a laugh. \u201cBut I know I should watch it now. Eventually I\u2019ll get to it.\u201d<\/p>\n Boreanaz played the dreamy Angel on Buffy<\/em> from 1997 to 2003. The hit series sparked his own spinoff, Angel<\/em>, which ran from 1999 to 2004. One year after Angel<\/em> wrapped, Boreanaz began portraying FBI special agent Seeley Booth on Bones<\/em> alongside Deschanel, who played anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan.<\/p>\n Throughout the series, which lasted 12 seasons from 2005 to 2017, Booth enlisted Brennan\u2019s help and the great minds in her lab to help solve cases where the victims\u2019 bones were all that was left. As the cases intensified, so did Booth and Brennan\u2019s onscreen romance<\/a>, which Deschanel told Us<\/em> was easy to play.<\/p>\n \u201cCertain levels of the chemistry were instant. We gelled when I came in and read the scene with him and auditioned,\u201d the actress recalled. \u201cWe kind of brought things out of each other and then, you know, we became much closer doing the show.\u201d<\/p>\n Deschanel joked that the costars also drove each other \u201ccrazy\u201d from time to time but that was evidence of their friendship. When it comes to her favorite memories with Boreanaz, Deschanel pointed to her off-screen pregnancies.
