Blake Lively<\/strong><\/a> appeared to be in good spirits at the premiere of her latest film, Another Simple Favor<\/em>, during SXSW in Austin, Texas, on March 7. Wearing a latex dress, the actress took selfies with fans, then posed on the red carpet alongside director Paul Feig<\/strong> and costar Anna Kendrick<\/strong>. At a panel after the screening, she cheerfully told the audience she was \u201cso excited\u201d about the movie, adding, \u201cI love this character so much. It\u2019s probably my favorite character I\u2019ve ever been fortunate enough to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was Lively\u2019s second public outing since she and husband Ryan Reynolds<\/strong><\/a> attended Saturday Night Live<\/em>\u2019s 50th-anniversary show in February. For the most part, the pair have been laying low while their bitter legal battle against Lively\u2019s It Ends With Us<\/em><\/a> director and costar Justin Baldoni<\/strong> <\/a>continues to play out. \u201cIt\u2019s been difficult,\u201d a source exclusively tells Us Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s little doubt the ordeal is taking a toll on them. In an amended lawsuit Lively, 37, filed on February 18, the actress says the \u201cemotional impact\u201d of the case has been \u201cextreme\u201d and is affecting Reynolds, 48, as well as their four children (daughters James, 10, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and son Olin, 2). Lively originally sued Baldoni, 41, in December 2024, claiming he sexually harassed her<\/a> on set and then waged a PR war against her, which he denied. In response, Baldoni sued Lively, Reynolds and their publicists for defamation.<\/p>\n

Reynolds filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuits<\/a> on Tuesday, March 18. Us<\/em> reached out to Baldoni\u2019s lawyer for comment at the time. \u201cThe entirety of Mr. Baldoni\u2019s case appears to be based on Mr. Reynolds allegedly privately calling Mr. Baldoni a \u2018predator,\u2019 but here is the problem, that is not defamation unless they can show that Mr. Reynolds did not believe that statement to be true,\u201d Reynolds\u2019 lawyers said, in part, in a statement to Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been really hard for Blake and Ryan,\u201d says a second source. \u201cThey\u2019re trying to be positive and support each other. There are good days and bad days for both of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no end in sight as Lively and Baldoni continue to duke it out. On February 28, a judge declined portions of Lively\u2019s subpoena for Baldoni\u2019s phone records, calling the request \u201coverly intrusive.\u201d During a pre-trial hearing on March 6, attorneys for Lively and Reynolds asked that access to their text messages be limited to Baldoni\u2019s legal team \u2014 they feel Baldoni himself should not be allowed to see private messages between the couple and their celebrity friends. \u201cThere is a significant chance of irreparable harm if marginal conversations with high profile individuals with no relevance to the case were to fall into wrong hands,\u201d said their lawyer, who also noted that the danger that details about Lively\u2019s children or \u201cprofound mental issues\u201d could be leaked.<\/p>\n

The Fallout<\/h3>\n

Amid all the back and forth, the first source says \u201cthings are tense at home given the level of scrutiny they\u2019re facing.\u201d Adds a third source: \u201cThey\u2019ve had their lives turned upside down. It\u2019s been hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Lively\u2019s amended complaint, she also details how the ongoing lawsuit has caused her considerable stress. \u201cThere are days when she has struggled to get out of bed, and she frequently chooses not to venture outside in public,\u201d legal documents read, noting that the Gossip Girl<\/em> alum has experienced \u201cgrief, fear, trauma and extreme anxiety.\u201d She also asserts that her children \u201chave been traumatized and emotionally uprooted in ways that have substantially impacted their well-being.\u201d<\/p>\n

The repercussions of the legal feud have been wide-reaching. There are reports Lively\u2019s close friendship with Taylor Swift<\/strong> has been impacted, and the first source says the singer \u201cwasn\u2019t happy with being brought into the legal mess.\u201d Swift, 35, was pulled into the saga when Baldoni accused Lively of using her \u201cmega celebrity\u201d pal to pressure him into making certain decisions on It Ends With Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the days following Lively\u2019s SXSW stop, reports of tension between Lively and Kendrick reached a fever pitch. News outlets picked up on how they answered questions about working together with different energy. When separately asked about reuniting<\/a> on the sequel to 2018\u2019s A Simple Favor<\/em>, Lively said it was \u201cthe best,\u201d while Kendrick simply replied, \u201cOh, you know.\u201d The first source says any signs of strain between the two boil down to opposing personalities. \u201cAnna [is] more of Type A, and Blake has a more relaxed attitude,\u201d explains the source, noting that the stars \u201cdon\u2019t interact when they\u2019re not working,\u201d and that Lively\u2019s lawsuit \u201cdoesn\u2019t help\u201d the situation.<\/p>\n

Losing Battle<\/h3>\n

Lively and Reynolds, who once seemed like untouchable Hollywood darlings, can\u2019t seem to find their footing. Their SNL50<\/em> appearance drew more criticism than praise. (During a skit, Reynolds poked fun at the lawsuit; When asked how he was doing by Amy Poehler<\/strong>, he replied, \u201cGreat. Why, what have you heard?\u201d) Baldoni\u2019s lawyer, Bryan Freedman<\/strong>, commented on the bit<\/a> \u2014 which an SNL<\/em> rep confirmed was scripted \u2014 saying, \u201cI\u2019m unaware of anybody, frankly, whose wife has been sexually harassed and has made jokes about that type of situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the case remains a hot topic. On the February 20 episode of SNL<\/em> alums David Spade<\/strong> and Dana Carvey<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cFly on the Wall\u201d podcast, Carvey revealed the iconic sketch show\u2019s creator, Lorne Michaels<\/strong>, texted him repeatedly about Lively\u2019s court battle after the anniversary special, and in a February 26 interview with Page Six<\/em>, Chelsea Handler<\/strong> compared Lively and Baldoni\u2019s near-constant public squabbling to a playground fight, saying, \u201cThe reason it\u2019s such a frenzy is that they keep releasing more and more stuff. Stop it. You\u2019re not helping yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the first source, Lively and Reynolds weren\u2019t expecting Baldoni to fight back so hard. The actor\u2019s garnered strong support online, and the comments toward Lively have been harsh. \u201cShe\u2019s human and can only take so much public stoning. [Blake wishes] people would wait and see how things pan out in court before making judgments.\u201d The source adds that Lively and Reynolds feel the backlash is over the top. \u201cUsually, when [someone says they are] a victim, there\u2019s some grace. But they feel like they haven\u2019t experienced that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lively and Reynolds have no intention of backing down, and she plans to continue promoting Another Simple Favor<\/em> ahead of its May 1 Prime Video release. \u201cThis is her livelihood, so she\u2019s going to be out doing her job,\u201d says the third source. \u201cShe won\u2019t be hiding.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, the couple are doing their best to stay strong. \u201cRyan is standing by Blake. They\u2019re supporting one another,\u201d says the first source. Adds the third: \u201cThe whole experience has been devastating for Blake and Ryan, but they\u2019re not running away from it. They know what really happened, and they\u2019re going to stand up for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
