Melora Hardin<\/strong><\/a> has only fond memories of her time on the Little House on the Prairie<\/em> set working with series director Michael Landon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMichael Landon made everyone feel safe,\u201d Hardin, 57, told Fox News Digital<\/a> in an interview published on Saturday, March 15, adding that she had been working \u201cfor a long time already\u201d in showbusiness before being cast in Prairie.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe trusted in us, and we trusted in him,\u201d she said of Landon\u2019s relationship with the other \u201cPrairie\u201d kids. \u201cHe was protective of us. And I think that was one of the most important lessons I learned early on [in Hollywood] \u2014 surround yourself with the people who make you feel safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Office alum auditioned for the series when she was just 9 years old, and returned when she was 13 to portray a character named Belinda,<\/a> a classmate of Matthew Labyorteaux<\/strong>\u2019s character Albert Ingalls. According to Hardin, Landon, who directed the series and also starred as patriarch Charles \u201cPa\u201d Ingalls, was \u201cso warm\u201d and \u201cworked great with kids.\u201d (Landon, who died in 1991, also executive produced the series and wrote several episodes<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLittle House on the Prairie debuted on NBC just over 40 years ago in September 1974 \u2014 and the beloved series often feels as relevant as ever today. The show is based on the series of books by the same name penned by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Following the adventures of the Ingalls family in Walnut [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always said that acting and making movies and TV are one of the greatest team sports around. And I believe Michael Landon was my first example of that,\u201d Hardin continued. \u201cI learned from him right away. And it just felt amazing to be around people who made you feel safe to be a fool in front of, to fail in front of. As a performer, especially that young, it felt good to not feel constantly judged or challenged.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cIt\u2019s about working with great collaborators and not tolerating a\u2013holes. He didn\u2019t have any a\u2013holes on set. And I think that\u2019s super important. If you feel safe, then you can do great work.\u201d She explained, \u201cHe really knew how to make us feel comfortable. He would let us do our thing. He wasn\u2019t a meddling director. He was very joyful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hardin told the outlet that, by this point in her career, she had already \u201cworked with people who weren\u2019t quite as nice\u201d as Landon, noting, \u201cA lot of times I would be doing a movie or something, and I\u2019d be the only [kid] in the room. I\u2019d be the only one in the classroom with the set teacher.\u201d<\/p>\n

But while working on Little House on the Prairie, Hardin said the child actors \u201chad school on the set, and it was just so much fun to have other kids in school with you, working with you.\u201d<\/p>\n
