Never count out the ragtag team of AFC Richmond. On Friday, Apple TV+ announced that Ted Lasso<\/em> season four<\/a> is indeed happening, with series star Jason Sudeikis<\/strong> reprising his titular role as Coach Lasso.<\/p>\n \u201cAs we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to \u2018look before we leap,\u201d Sudeikis, who also serves as an executive producer, said in a statement, \u201cin season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it\u2019s exactly where they\u2019re meant to be.\u201d<\/p>\n Ted Lasson<\/em> season four welcomes Emmy-winning writer Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants This<\/em>, 30 Rock<\/em>) as executive producer alongside returning producers Brendan Hunt<\/strong> (who also stars as Coach Beard), Joe Kelly<\/strong>, Jane Becker<\/strong>, Jamie Lee<\/strong>, and Bill Wrubel<\/strong>. Brett Goldstein<\/a>,<\/strong> who plays footballer turned coach Roy Kent, serves as writer and executive producer on the fourth season alongside Leanne Bowen<\/strong>. Sara Walker<\/strong> and Phoebe Walsh<\/strong> will also serve as writers and producers for season four, and Sasha Garron<\/strong> co-produces. Bill Lawrence<\/strong>, who originally helped conceive the show and is now helping to shepherd a third season of the AppleTV+ comedy Shrinking<\/em><\/a>, also executive produces via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content.<\/p>\n The news comes as a bit of a shock, as Sudeikis had indicated ahead of the third season<\/a>, which concluded in May 2023, that it may be the Emmy-winning show\u2019s last. \u201cThis is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,\u201d he confirmed to Deadline<\/a> in March 2023. \u201cThe fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don\u2019t even know yet\u2014that being season three\u2014it\u2019s flattering.\u201d He added, \u201cYeah, I think that we\u2019ve set the table for all sorts of folks\u2026to get to watch the further telling of these stories.\u201d<\/p>\n As such, the final episode of Ted Lasso<\/em> season three acted as a potential series finale, concluding with happy endings for most of the main characters. Ted returned to Kansas to be closer to his son and ex-wife; Hannah Waddingham<\/strong>\u2019s Rebecca and Juno Temple<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Keeley partnered to start an AFC Richmond women\u2019s team; and Roy ascended to his position as new manager of the AFC Richmond men\u2019s squad.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, Waddingham revealed her hopes for more Ted Lasso<\/em> with Vanity Fair<\/a>,<\/em> saying at the show\u2019s season three premiere in Los Angeles: \u201cIt is the end of this particular story thread. You\u2019ll know why once you see it.\u201d At the same time, she continued, \u201cI genuinely have no idea what\u2019s next. I\u2019m not sure Jason even knows what he wants to do, but I\u2019d love to see a spin-off series with Keeley, Rebecca, and Higgins. There are so many characters that are beloved that it would be reasonable for them to do a spin-off. We will have to wait and find out.\u201d<\/p>\n Apple TV+ has not confirmed any casting beyond Sudeikis at this point, but sources tell The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em> that Temple is in negotiations to reprise her role as Keeley Jones, and Hunt is nearing a signing to play Coach Beard again.<\/p>\n Last August, the tides on a fourth installment began to turn. Deadline<\/a> reported that Warner Bros. Television had picked up the options for three original Ted Lasso<\/em> cast members who had contracts under Equity, the UK\u2019s acting union. That would be Waddingham, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton; Goldstein, who now has a recurring role on Shrinking<\/em>; and Jeremy Swift,<\/strong> who plays director of football operations Leslie Higgins. They were all reportedly contacted by Warner Bros. Television about returning to the show.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
