The 36-year-old singer, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, was hit with multiple suits in 2023, with several of her former background dancers using them to allege the singer subjected them to sexual harassment. <\/p>\n
Lizzo opened up about the impact they had on her mental health to fans during a performance at the Wiltern Theater, with the singer caught on camera by a concertgoer giving her emotional update.<\/p>\n
In footage shared by a fan on X, she said the lawsuits left her so \u201cdeeply hurt\u201d she \u201cdidn\u2019t want to live anymore\u201d.<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cI named (my album \u2018Love in Real Life\u2019) because about a year and a half ago \u2013 it\u2019s so hard for me to talk about \u2013 I was in such a dark, deep depression.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was so heartbroken by the world and so deeply hurt that I didn\u2019t want to live anymore, and I was so deeply afraid of people that I didn\u2019t want to be seen. \u201cEventually, I got over that fear.”<\/p>\n
\nLizzo recalled a fan\u2019s words helped shift her perspective, adding: \u201cAs I was walking through the crowd to get to my spot, something miraculous happened. \u201cSomebody, who I didn\u2019t know, looked at me and said, \u2018Lizzo, I love you.\u2019 And they reached out, and I reached back, and we hugged, and it felt so damn good.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nCalling the moment \u201cf****** life-saving\u201d, she added: \u201cAfter that experience I was like, \u2018Damn, you can\u2019t get this s*** on the Internet, bro. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cThis is the kind of love you can only get in real life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe singer said she shared her story in the hope of reaching anyone dealing with \u201cdepression, or darkness, or felt so betrayed by someone they trusted or was lied on and hated on for those lies\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nLizzo denied the dancers\u2019 claims against her \u2013 calling them \u201coutrageous\u201d and \u201cunbelievable\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nAfter the initial legal filings, six more dancers came forward with similar allegations \u2013 and in September, Asha Daniels, a former stylist for Lizzo\u2019s \u2018Big Grrrl Big Tour\u2019, filed another lawsuit alleging racial and sexual harassment.<\/p>\n
\nIn December 2024, it was reported that Asha\u2019s lawsuit had been dropped. <\/p>\n
\nA source close to Lizzo told The New York Post the singer would continue to fight the \u201cfalse\u201d allegations. <\/p>\n
\nThey added: \u201cThere\u2019s a reason that Lizzo continues to fight long after most public figures would have settled \u2013 because these allegations are false and can\u2019t be allowed to stand.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cShe is not going to stop fighting until every single one of these ridiculous smears is dismissed.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nLizzo still faces multiple ongoing lawsuits filed by former employees who claim sexual and racial harassment and a toxic work environment. <\/p>\n
\nShe maintains the allegations against her are untrue.<\/p>\n
