Matlock<\/em> is getting ready to wrap up<\/a> its first season \u2014 but the upcoming finale features even bigger twists and paves the way for some intriguing guest stars in season 2.<\/p>\n

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly<\/em>, Skye P. Marshall<\/strong> teased her reaction<\/a> to the season finale, saying, \u201cI am not even exaggerating. When I read the finale script, I was like, \u2018Here is take off. Here we go.\u2019 And I mean take off as our characters are fully developed [by the end]. Everyone has their own angle, their own goal and their own ambition \u2014 whether it aligns with their original alliance or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marshall praised Matlock<\/em> for \u201cshooting for the stars.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cBased on how season 1 ended, I\u2019m pretty sure we\u2019re going to get some amazing guest stars to just continue where this is all going to make it all make sense,\u201d she continued. \u201cWith the success of Matlock<\/em>, we got a lot of people\u2019s attention. I\u2019m really excited to see what other incredible talent wants to come and explore these other characters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMatlock threw viewers for a loop with that shocking premiere plot twist \u2014 but what comes next? Kathy Bates\u2018 character, Madeline \u201cMatty\u201d Matlock, was introduced during the sneak peek of the series, which aired on Sunday, September 22. Despite sharing the same last name as the iconic Matlock series from the \u201980s, Matty appeared to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She concluded: \u201cI\u2019m really excited that the rocket is taking off. I love that. And whatever you think is going to be revealed, the twist is going to have you turned around the same way the pilot ending did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matlock<\/em>, which premiered in September 2024, follows a wealthy retired lawyer named Madeline Kingston (Kathy Bates<\/strong>) who pretends to be a poor widower named Matty Matlock to get a job at a firm. As it turns out, Matty thinks someone at the company is complicit in the opioid epidemic that resulted in her daughter\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

The plan to take down Jacobson Moore doesn\u2019t exactly go as planned<\/a> since Matty finds herself growing closer to Olympia (Marshall), Billy (David Del Rio<\/strong>), Sarah (Leah Lewis<\/strong>) and more of her coworkers that don\u2019t seem to be aware of the corruption at the firm.<\/p>\n

After Matlock<\/em> was renewed for a second season, director and executive producer Kat Coiro<\/strong> previewed how the show keeps building on that narrative shakeup.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s so brilliant about the show and Jennie [Snyder Urman<\/strong>\u2019s] writing is that it\u2019s very incremental and character-based. The twists have a lot to do with psychology rather than relying on big external factors or plot shifts,\u201d Coiro explained in November 2024. \u201cYou get so invested in these characters that small revelations become really exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coiro noted that the CBS series isn\u2019t relying on just one storytelling device.<\/p>\n
