The 56-year-old singer underwent treatment for the disease in 2003 and was given the all-clear but it returned a decade later and she opted to have a double mastectomy.<\/p>\n
She told The Guardian: “I\u2019ve never feared for my life.<\/p>\n
“And I\u2019ve never lost faith. That\u2019s just who I am. Faith as in belief. If you believe in yourself you\u2019re just like: \u2018Hmm, well. Got cancer. That sucks.\u2019 Yes, I cried about it. Yes, I said: \u2018God, I didn\u2019t think I was going to die this way.\u2019 But I didn\u2019t wallow. I didn\u2019t throw a pity party for myself.”<\/p>\n
The ‘Left Outside Alone’ hitmaker believes that there is always “a health crisis one step away” but is pleased that she is going through the menopause at a time when so many high-profile women are using their platforms to speak out about the ramifications of the natural change. <\/p>\n
\nShe added: “I would just be talking \u2013 then, phew! Let me take off my jacket! Yo dude! I\u2019m on FIRE! Wheew!\u2019 I didn\u2019t find it embarrassing. I thought, that\u2019s hilarious \u2026 I was shocked that my body could do that. It was fascinating.<\/p>\n
\n“[I’m] 100% full menopause.<\/p>\n
\n“Halle Berry is talking about it, the Oprahs of this world \u2026 we\u2019re all going: \u2018Oh my God, we\u2019re in f****** menopause!\u2019 We\u2019re talking about it to take away the cloud. It\u2019s not a terrible thing!”<\/p>\n
\nBut the ‘I’m Outta Love’ songstress initially worried that she had a brain tumour when she first started going through the change before finding out that it was all caused by her hormones.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking on the ‘White Wine Question Time’, she told Kate Thornton: “I didn\u2019t know my exhaustion; I didn\u2019t know my brain fog. I didn\u2019t know all the things \u2013 I just thought I was tired.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was diagnosing myself but had no idea any of this was hormone related. I guess I was waiting for that ball to drop. My ball was, I thought I had a brain tumour and life was going horrible, and I was really, really scared.<\/p>\n
