Love Is Blind<\/em><\/a> star David \u201cDave\u201d Bettenberg<\/strong> opened up about his split from ex-fianc\u00e9e Lauren O\u2019Brien<\/strong>, admitting he regrets how he ended things after learning about her past hookup.<\/p>\n During season 8 of the Netflix show, fans watched Dave, 33, and Lauren, 32, get engaged after sparking a connection in the pods. However, they split before their wedding day after he learned that she was hooking up with someone else before the experiment.<\/p>\n Lauren insisted that things with the other guy were casual, and Dave later admitted during the reunion on Sunday, March 9, that the unnamed man was \u201cplanting this idea\u201d in his friends\u2019 and sister\u2019s head that his relationship with Lauren was more than it was.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was all fabricated and he did it on purpose because he\u2019s trying to manipulate his way into the show,\u201d Dave told People<\/span><\/i><\/a> about Lauren\u2019s past hookup. \u201cHonestly, it\u2019s embarrassing and it\u2019s <\/span>desperate for attention<\/span><\/a> and it\u2019s pathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n The reality star continued, \u201cWatching what he\u2019s doing right now is just pathetic. Me and Lauren have talked. We\u2019re like, we don\u2019t even want to talk about this guy and give him the attention that he wants. Because he\u2019s been literally planning this for a year. Plotting and planning this behind the scenes, and flat-out lying to people that know me specifically so I would hear about it. That\u2019s literally psychotic behavior. That\u2019s not OK.\u201d<\/p>\n Dave also admitted that he believes Lauren is the \u201cone that got away\u201d<\/a> due to her ex\u2019s involvement in their split.<\/p>\n \u201cThroughout this entire past year, I still thought what I initially thought was the truth, and now I just feel like an idiot,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cI\u2019ve apologized to Lauren so many times. I believed the people that he was telling all this stuff to, and I didn\u2019t know what else to do. There\u2019s no real right answer to how to navigate that.\u201d<\/p>\n After noting that he now has an \u201centirely different perspective\u201d<\/a> than when they called it quits, Dave recalled his mindset at the time he chose to end his engagement to Lauren.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause in that moment, when me and Lauren eventually don\u2019t work out, and it\u2019s mostly because of this guy, I\u2019m just making the best judgment call I can in that time with the information that I have from people that I trust,\u201d he continued. \u201cThere was no way I was going to spin that in her favor unfortunately at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
