The Righteous Gemstones<\/strong><\/a><\/em> viewers got a nice surprise when Bradley Cooper<\/strong><\/a> popped up on the screen in the show\u2019s season four premiere!<\/p>\n The HBO<\/strong><\/a> comedy series kicked off it\u2019s final season on Sunday night (March 9) with an appearance that was unknown until the episode debuted. <\/p>\n Bradley<\/strong> can be seen throughout the ep, titled \u201cPrelude,\u201d playing a Gemstone ancestor, as the series traveled back in time to 1862. <\/p>\n In the ep, during the height of the Civil War, a young man named Gemstone gets a divine wake-up call. <\/p>\n Creator, writer and star Danny McBride<\/strong><\/a> opened up about how he got Bradley<\/strong> to join the cast of the show for the episode. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI knew it would be a tough role, because this show is obviously an ensemble,\u201d he said at the premiere last week<\/a>, via Deadline<\/a><\/em>. \u201cThere are so many incredible actors here that the audience is showing up for and to invite the audience back after the show\u2019s been off for a little bit, and to show up and not be any of these beautiful faces, it just had to be somebody who was more beautiful than all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n He recalled talking to his producing partner Brandon James<\/strong>, \u201cWho\u2019s the type of the person to go to for this?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt was like, it needs to be somebody that has some real charisma and charm to pull off this turn with this character, someone that the audience won\u2019t mind going on this journey with, and somebody that can hold the entire thing on their own shoulders. And I think I just threw away, flippantly, somebody like Bradley Cooper<\/strong>. And Brandon <\/strong>was like, well, we should just ask him,\u201d Danny<\/strong> said. <\/p>\n Danny<\/strong> also mentioned he thought it would take some persuading to get Bradley<\/strong> to sign on. <\/p>\n \u201cYou know what? I would imagine that I would\u2019ve had to persuade him,\u201d he said, via People<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI sent him the script and he called me back pretty quickly. He liked what was presented.\u201c<\/p>\n \u201cWhat was interesting is [Cooper<\/strong>] had actually never seen The Gemstones<\/em> before, but he didn\u2019t want to watch it until we were done shooting,\u201d Danny<\/strong> added. \u201cHe didn\u2019t want it to influence him, which I appreciate.
