Backstreet Boys singer Brian Littrell<\/strong><\/a> got emotional watching his son, Baylee Littrell<\/strong>, chasing his American Idol<\/em><\/a> dreams.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old\u2019s audition was shown during the Sunday, March 9, premiere of the singing competition\u2019s 23rd season. New judge Carrie Underwood<\/strong> said she noticed something \u201cfamiliar\u201d about Baylee before he revealed his dad\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must forgive me, I didn\u2019t have your dad\u2019s posters in my room,\u201d Luke Bryan teased as Underwood, 41, exclaimed that Baylee resembled his father.<\/p>\n

Baylee opened up to the Idol<\/em> cameras about growing up in the spotlight<\/a> at the height of the Backstreet Boys\u2019 success, joking that while he inherited his singing abilities<\/a> from his dad, the same couldn\u2019t be said for dancing.<\/p>\n

Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell confirmed his son will be auditioning for season 23 of the singing competition show, premiering on ABC Sunday, March 9. \u201cHe\u2019s actually on the new American Idol this season, which is a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cFollowing in my dad\u2019s footsteps is scary because his career to me is one of the most extraordinary in music history. No one can ever compare,\u201d Baylee gushed. \u201cI remember being 8 or 9 years old and they sold out this huge arena and I got to open up for them. I just had my two little songs and I came off stage and when the guys went on, the screams and the lights went down. I was just mesmerized.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brian, now 50, reflected on how his time as a boy band star affected his son, whom he shares with wife Leighanne Wallace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, growing up in the industry, a lot of people look at that as such a perk. But it\u2019s not easy,\u201d Brian said. \u201cI\u2019ve always told everybody that he\u2019s 10 times more talented than I ever was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outside of the audition room, Brian teared up while praising Baylee\u2019s hard work. \u201cWe\u2019re super proud. \u2026 I think he\u2019s cut out for it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Baylee went on to perform an \u201cemotional\u201d original song for Bryan, 48, Underwood and Lionel Richie. \u201cThis song is about me personally wanting to give up and not giving up yet,\u201d he told the cameras. \u201cTrust me, I wish I wanted to do something completely different. But if I\u2019m not doing music, there\u2019s no way I can really exist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAmerican Idol is arguably television\u2019s biggest, most influential platform for emerging artists over the past 23 years \u2013 including relatives of some very famous faces. From siblings of pop superstars to the children of Hollywood royalty, numerous Idol auditioners tried to carve out their own place in the spotlight. Some sailed through the audition rounds, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

His performance left Underwood stunned \u2014 even more so due to the fact that he wrote the song himself. \u201cI think you could go very, very far in this competition,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Bryan subsequently invited Baylee\u2019s dad to sing<\/a> the chorus with him. \u201cI don\u2019t know what to do anymore \/ I seem to be all alone in this war \/ Always by myself with no one by my side,\u201d the pair sang. \u201cWhat to do, what to do with my life \/ It seems I have no more tears left to cry \/ Misery takes my time \/ I\u2019m waiting on myself to die.\u201d<\/p>\n
