Very much in the Sandra Dee, Doris Day tradition, you know. Raquel Welch, known for her roles in Fantastic Voyage and Bedazzled, has died at age 82. \u201cThe legendary bombshell actress of film, television and stage, passed away peacefully early this morning after a brief illness,\u201d a representative for the actress told Us Weekly in a statement on Wednesday, February 15. \u201cHer [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Welch did, however, take the surname of her first husband, <strong>James Welch<\/strong> (the pair were married from 1959 to 1964) instead of Tejada, her father\u2019s last name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer father was a structural engineer who was a Bolivian immigrant to the United States who married an Anglo woman [<strong>Josephine Sarah Hall<\/strong>], and so, she was raised as fully aware that she was Bolivian,\u201d Eugenio continues in the doc. \u201cAs she tells the story, her father refused to speak Spanish in the house \u2018cause he didn\u2019t want his kids to have an accent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the film, Welch discusses her identity in her own words, saying that there was \u201ca part of me that was missing\u201d growing up. \u201cThe part of me that was missing was the part of me that my father chose to just amputate out of our lives,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>Audio of the late actress also features her admitting that she didn\u2019t think she would have gone very far in Hollywood if she had insisted she be referred to by her maiden name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you had kept your maiden name, do you think you would have been able to go as far in Hollywood?\u201d an interviewer asks Welch in the audio. \u201cIf I was Raquel Tejado, not a chance in hell, no.
