California Governor Gavin Newsom<\/strong> recently launched a new podcast and, in his first episode on Thursday, told<\/a> conservative activist Charlie Kirk<\/strong> that he thinks transgender girls and women playing in sports for girls and women is \u201cdeeply unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newsom and Kirk, the Donald Trump<\/strong>-aligned, 31-year-old right-wing influencer<\/a> best known for starting Turning Point USA to promote conservative ideals on college campuses, spoke for over an hour about, among other things, how Democrats fumbled messaging in the 2024 election cycle and where the pair could agree.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got to admire what you\u2019ve been able to do, not to weaponize, but to organize on these college campuses a different point of view,\u201d Newsom said before noting that his newly teenage son has seen videos of Kirk on TikTok. Kirk laughs, adding that the teen could come to a Turning Point event in Florida.<\/p>\n

Then, the governor asks Kirk for advice on how to better appeal to Americans.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet better ideas,\u201d he responds.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have an opportunity to run to the middle \u2026 you right now should come out and be like, you know what, the young man who’s about to win the state championship in the long jump in female sports,\u201d Kirk continued, misgendering a high school track player in California. \u201cThat shouldn’t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d Newsom said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWould you do something like that? Would you say no men in female sports?\u201d Kirk asked. \u201cWell, I think it’s an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that,\u201d Newsom responded. \u201cIt\u2019s deeply unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, would you speak out against this young man?\u201d Kirk pressed, adding, \u201cI see you wrestling with this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I\u2019m not wrestling with the fairness,\u201d the governor said. \u201cI totally agree with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor, who is widely understood to be eyeing a presidential run for 2028, described his new podcast, \u201cThis Is Gavin Newsom,\u201d as a forum to \u201chave honest conversations\u201d with people who both agree and disagree with \u201cus.\u201d<\/p>\n
