At the first public screening of\u00a0The Flash<\/em>, which stars\u00a0Ezra Miller<\/strong>\u00a0as DC\u2019s speedster hero, filmmaker\u00a0Andy Muschietti<\/strong> addressed the chaotic behavior and mental breakdown that hit the actor after filming was completed. Miller has been arrested numerous times for\u00a0disorderly conduct<\/a>,\u00a0assault<\/a> and a\u00a0break-in<\/a>, and engaged in other chaotic, disruptive and\u00a0unsettling behaviors<\/a> over the past year and a half.<\/p>\n In August, the actor\u2014who identifies as non-binary and prefers they\/them pronouns\u2014released an apology \u201cto everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior\u201d and said they were\u00a0\u201csuffering complex mental health issues.\u201d<\/a> Since then, the 30-year-old\u00a0Perks of Being a Wallflower<\/em> and\u00a0Justice League<\/em>\u00a0actor has remained largely out of sight as the legal issues played out, issuing as a\u00a0guilty plea<\/a>\u00a0to trespassing that ended the break-in charges.<\/p>\n Muschietti, the director of the\u00a0It<\/em> movies, spoke out publicly about Miller\u2019s conduct and condition at an early screening of the June 16 movie on the Warner Bros. studio lot. \u201cEzra is well now. We’re all hoping that they get better,\u201d said Muschietti. (During his remarks, the filmmaker, who is Argentinian and speaks English as a second language, apologized for occasionally using the \u201che\u201d pronoun for the actor. \u201cIt’s not that I don’t want to, I just get mixed up. I spent an entire year with them, and still to this day\u2026\u201d He shrugged. \u201cIt’s my fault.\u201d)<\/p>\n \u201c[They\u2019re] taking the steps to recovery, [they\u2019re] dealing with mental health issues, but [they\u2019re] well. We talked to them not too long ago, and [they’re] very committed to get better,\u201d Muschietti said.<\/p>\n The filmmaker\u2019s sister and producing partner, Barbara Muschietti<\/strong>, also weighed in to praise the actor\u2019s work in the film. The Flash<\/em> stars Miller as two versions of the high-speed hero Barry Allen, brought together by the character\u2019s ability to puncture through time and into parallel universes. Miller appears in some capacity in nearly every scene in the film. \u201cI have to say, during our shoot, during principal photography, their commitment to the role was something like we’ve never seen, and the discipline, the work, the willingness, physical, mental, and just wanting to go beyond the pale,\u201d Barbara said. \u201cIt was just amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEzra is an extraordinary actor,\u201d Andy added. \u201c[They] was probably one of my… Not probably, [they\u2019re] one of my\u00a0best<\/em> experiences working with an actor\u2014ever. [They\u2019re] brilliant. [Their] contributions are constant, and also, [they] likes to play and do more takes than I do, which is a lot. So, take 24, I’m like, \u2018I think we’re done.\u2019 They say, “Can we do one more?\u2019 \u2018Yeah, of course.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The primary version of\u00a0The Flash<\/em> that Ezra Miller plays is the character who was introduced in\u00a0Zack Snyder<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/em> and appeared as a supporting character in the\u00a0two alternate versions<\/a> of the\u00a0Justice League<\/em> film. The character has also turned up for a brief role in the TV version of\u00a0The Flash<\/em> that stars Grant Gustin<\/strong> as the hero.
