Gwyneth Paltrow<\/strong><\/a> noticed a serious spike in her menopause symptoms when she increased her alcohol intake amid the stressful Los Angeles wildfires.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn January when the fires were happening in L.A., I, like, used alcohol for its purpose, of, like, medicating,\u201d Paltrow, 52, shared on the latest episode of her \u201cGoop<\/a>\u201d podcast. \u201cAnd normally I don\u2019t drink a lot at all but those two weeks I think I drank every night. And my symptoms were completely out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning actress noted that although she is \u201cin the thick\u201d of menopause and \u201call over the place,\u201d her symptoms are typically \u201cwell under control\u201d when she isn\u2019t drinking often. \u201cIt\u2019s the first time I really noticed causation in that way,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Paltrow also shared that she began to feel anxious at night, an issue she never struggled with before perimenopause and menopause. \u201cThere were nights where my anxiety \u2026 I would just wake up, I would get crushed with anxiety which I\u2019ve never had in my life,\u201d she told Dr. Mary Claire Haver<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sharing that she\u2019s always been a \u201creal sleeper,\u201d Paltrow said she was surprised by the new symptom as she thought sleep issues during menopause would only come because \u201cyou don\u2019t have enough progesterone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had a particularly bad time with it and hopefully I\u2019m coming out the other side,\u201d she continued. \u201c[But] I would lie in bed and think about every\u00a0 mistake I\u2019ve ever made, every person\u2019s feelings I ever hurt. I would be up for, like, six hours. It was crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anxiety has spiked for many Los Angeles residents these past few months as wildfires swept the city and destroyed homes and businesses, forcing thousands to evacuate. Although Paltrow\u2019s home \u2013 which she shared with husband Brad Falchuck <\/strong>and was sold for $22 million weeks later \u2014 remained \u201csafe,\u201d the actress took to social media in January to express her condolences over watching loved ones lose everything.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur beloved Los Angeles\u2026 We are in deep grief for so many of our close friends who have lost everything,\u201d Paltrow wrote via Instagram at the time. \u201cThank you to those inquiring, we are currently safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cWhen the fires are out there will be more to say and everything to do. The city of angels will need angels of all kinds. Please everyone, stay safe and vigilant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paltrow and Falchuck, 53, tied the knot in September 2018. Paltrow was previously married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin<\/strong>, with whom she shares 20-year-old daughter Apple, and 18-year-old son Moses. Falchuck, for his part, has two children, Brody and Isabella, from his first marriage.<\/p>\n

As Paltrow continues to navigate her way through menopause, she\u2019s been candid about speaking on her experience in hopes to normalizing the conversation.<\/p>\n
