The Stranger Things<\/em><\/a> star shared an impassioned video via Instagram on Monday, March 3, calling out media articles \u201cdissecting\u201d her looks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to take a moment to address something that I think is bigger than just me, something that affects every young woman who grows up under public scrutiny,\u201d Brown, 21, captioned the post<\/a>, sharing the transcript of her video.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s necessary to speak up about this. I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can\u2019t seem to grow with me. Instead, they act like I\u2019m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things<\/em> Season 1. And because I don\u2019t, I\u2019m now a target,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

The Electric State<\/em><\/a> actress went on to call out a series of recent headlines that she said are \u201cdesperate to tear young women down,\u201d including pieces titled, \u201cWhy are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown ageing so badly?\u201d and \u201cWhat has Millie Bobby Brown done to her face?\u201d<\/p>\n

Pointing out one particular article, titled \u201cLittle Britain<\/em>\u2019s Matt Lucas<\/strong> takes savage swipe at Millie Bobby Brown\u2019s new \u2018mommy makeover\u2019 look,\u201d the British star said the piece amplified \u201can insult rather than questioning why a grown man is mocking a young woman\u2019s appearance.\u201d<\/p>\n

I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can\u2019t handle seeing a girl become a woman. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself. We have become a society where it\u2019s so much easier to criticize than it is to pay a compliment. Why is the knee-jerk reaction to say something horrible rather than to say something nice? If you have a problem with that, I have to wonder\u2014what is it that actually makes you so uncomfortable?\u201d<\/p>\n
