The 61-year-old comic – who kicked off his presenting duties on Sunday (02.03.25) with a pre-taped segment that paid homage to ‘The Substance’ – was talking about the Best Picture nominees when he referenced the scandal, which saw the ‘Emilia Perez’ actress experience a backlash for past offensive social media posts.<\/p>\n
He quipped: \u201cLittle fact for you: \u2018Anora\u2019 uses the F-word 479 times. That\u2019s three more than the record set by Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s publicists – ‘You tweeted WHAT?!’<\/p>\n
\u201cKarla, if you\u2019re going to tweet about the Oscars, remember, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”<\/p>\n
Conan poked fun at a number of the night’s most-nominated movies.<\/p>\n
\nHe said:\u201cI loved \u2018The Brutalist\u2019. It also received 10 nominations, I loved it, I didn\u2019t want it to end and luckily it didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n
\n\u201c\u2019Conclave\u2019, I\u2019m a Catholic boy, loved \u2018Conclave\u2019. If you haven\u2019t seen it, its log line is \u2018A movie about the Catholic church \u2013 but don\u2019t worry.\u2019…<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnother one that\u2019s nominated for Best Picture is \u2018I\u2019m Still Here\u2019. It\u2019s about a woman who forges ahead alone after her husband goes missing. When my wife saw it, she called it the feelgood movie of the year.”<\/p>\n
\nThe host turned his attentions to Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet and noted he was \u201cnominated for his portrayal of Bob Dylan\u201d in \u201cA Complete Unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cBob Dylan wanted to be here tonight, but not that badly.”<\/p>\n
\n‘Wicked’ stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo had opened the show with a musical performance, and their appearance gave Conan the chance to make a joke at the film’s expense.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “How about those ladies, Ariana and Cynthia. Wicked is nominated tonight in 10 categories, it\u2019s the perfect movie for anyone who ever finished watching \u2018The Wizard of Oz\u2019 and thought \u2018Sure, but where did all the minor characters go to college?\u2019 That\u2019s the story.”<\/p>\n
\nThe talk show host shared a funny moment with Adam Sandler when talking about the night’s dress code, with the cameras cutting to the ‘Happy Gilmore’ star in a hoodie and shorts.<\/p>\n
\nHe asked: “Adam, what are you wearing? You\u2019re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe actor replied: \u201cNobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up. I like the way I look. Because I\u2019m a good person. I don\u2019t care about what I wear and what I don\u2019t wear. My snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offend you so much that you had to mock me in front my peers!\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAdam then declared he was leaving the ceremony, but not before he rushed up to Timothee and yelled “Chalamet!” in his ear.<\/p>\n
