Veteran actor Morgan Freeman is set to honour his late friend and co-star Gene Hackman during the 97th Academy Awards<\/p>\n
The 87-year-old was a lifelong pal of \u2018The French Connection\u2019 star, 95 \u2013\u00a0who was found dead alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa, 61, in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home on 26 February \u2013\u00a0and he will deliver a tribute to the late star on Sunday (02.03.25) during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment, commemorating Gene\u2019s illustrious career and their collaborations in \u2018Unforgiven\u2019 and \u2018Under Suspicion\u2019. <\/p>\n
The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, 61, will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will honour the best films of 2024, with \u2018Emilia P\u00e9rez\u2019 leading the nominations with 13 nods, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
It was revealed by the Daily Mail Morgan\u2019s tribute to Gene is anticipated to be a poignant moment, reflecting on a remarkable career and a profound friendship.<\/p>\n
Gene and his spouse Betsy\u2019s bodies exhibited signs of mummification, suggesting they had been dead for some time.<\/p>\n
\nA German Shepherd was also found dead, while two other dogs were discovered alive on the property. <\/p>\n
\nAuthorities are investigating the deaths, with initial reports indicating no signs of foul play. <\/p>\n
\nData from Hackman’s pacemaker suggests his last recorded heartbeat was on 17 February. <\/p>\n
\nToxicology reports are pending, but carbon monoxide poisoning has been ruled out. <\/p>\n
\nGene, a two-time Oscar winner, was renowned for roles in films such as \u2018Superman\u2019, and \u2018The Royal Tenenbaums\u2019. <\/p>\n
\nHe retired from acting in 2004, choosing a quieter life in New Mexico. <\/p>\n
\nTributes have poured in from Hollywood greats. <\/p>\n
\nClint Eastwood, 94, who directed and starred alongside Hackman in \u2018Unforgiven\u2019, described him as a \u201cdear friend\u201d and an \u201cexcellent actor\u2019. <\/p>\n
