And seeing the whole NHL, everything, a special moment for John is so nice to see. And it\u2019s really nice to be a part of and have our whole family be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meredith went on to say that her late husband\u2019s impact \u201camazes me\u201d to this day. \u201cIt catches me off guard, but I\u2019m like \u2026 I get it though. He was so special. And even I was with some of the Detroit wives today and they all were wearing his pin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnny and his brother <strong>Matthew Gaudreau<\/strong> were killed by an alleged drunk driver in August 2024 while they were biking in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, just one day before their sister was scheduled to get married.<\/p>\n<p>Meredith and her two children helped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/johnny-gaudreaus-wife-meredith-leads-blue-jackets-on-ice-before-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lead the Blue Jackets<\/a> onto the ice during Saturday night\u2019s game. Meredith \u2014 who wore a white Blue Jackets letterman-style jacket in honor of her husband \u2014 is also pregnant with the pair\u2019s third child.<\/p>\n<p>Johnny\u2019s former teammates also offered their own tribute. The team arrived at the game wearing his \u201csignature fit\u201d \u2014 a blue hoodie, black pants, black Ugg boots and a black cap.<\/p>\n<div id=\"news-block\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form  \" wp_automatic_readability=\"8.5\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-signup__success\" aria-live=\"polite\" wp_automatic_readability=\"7\">\n<h3>Thank You!<\/h3>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHis style was definitely more unique, more laidback,\u201d the team\u2019s defenseman <strong>Zach Werenski<\/strong> said via NHL.com on Saturday. \u201cHe wore the same stuff all the time. I think that\u2019s what made him in a sense a special person, how laid back he was. Part of that was his style. We just thought it was a great idea to dress like him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meredith was also in on the plan and helped the team source everything they needed for the big reveal. The team\u2019s captain <strong>Boone Jenner<\/strong> told NHL.com Meredith \u201chelped us a lot with pictures\u201d and she also managed to get the required sweatshirts from the Avalon Surf Shop in Avalon, New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we see these outfits we think of him and it reminds us of him,\u201d Jenner also said. \u201cIt\u2019s very special to us. We wanted to make sure we put the right pieces in to honor him the right way, the whole fit. I think it\u2019s a good tribute the way it\u2019s done.
