\nBill recalled one particularly tense moment on the set of the movie, adding: \u201c(Gene) did, like, 25 takes where he did it perfectly with an actor who kept blowing it every single time. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI thought Gene was gonna throw the guy off the ledge of the building.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nGene, who won two Academy Awards for \u2018The French Connection\u2019 and \u2018Unforgiven\u2019, had a reputation for intensity both on and off screen. <\/p>\n
\nThough he officially retired in 2004, his performances in films such as \u2018The Royal Tenenbaums\u2019 and \u2018Mississippi Burning\u2019 cemented his status as one of Hollywood\u2019s greatest actors.<\/p>\n
\nThe 95-year-old was found dead at his home in New Mexico earlier this week, along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 64. Santa Fe County sheriff\u2019s deputies discovered their bodies on Wednesday (26.02.25) afternoon. <\/p>\n
\nWhile foul play is not suspected, the investigation remains open.<\/p>\n
\nA search warrant described the scene as having \u201cno obvious signs of a gas leak\u201d but noted the presence of a heater near Betsy\u2019s head, as well as scattered pills and their deceased dog in a closet. <\/p>\n
\nAnother dog was found unharmed on the property. <\/p>\n
\nAuthorities estimate the couple may have been dead for \u201cseveral days\u201d to \u201ca couple of weeks\u201d before they were discovered.<\/p>\n
\nGene\u2019s eldest daughter, Elizabeth Hackman, initially suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. <\/p>\n
\nShe, along with her sister, Leslie Hackman, and Gene\u2019s granddaughter, Annie, released a statement saying: \u201cIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman, and his wife, Betsy. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us, he was always just Dad and Grandpa. We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.\u201d<\/p>\n
