Renowned for her roles in \u2018Buffy the Vampire Slayer\u2019\u00a0and \u2018Gossip Girl\u2019, actress Michelle \u2013 who had recently undergone a liver transplant \u2013\u00a0was found dead in her New York City apartment on 26 February.<\/p>\n
Jennifer Hutchins, producer of the star\u2019s final film, \u2018Spyral\u2019, has now confirmed the actress was scheduled to attend a benefit screening of the documentary at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, on 12 March. <\/p>\n
She told TMZ: \u201cThe team was aware of Michelle\u2019s health struggles, but she still planned to attend, either in person or via Zoom.\u201d<\/p>\n
The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office stated Michelle\u2019s family had objected to an autopsy, resulting in her cause of death being ruled \u201cundetermined\u2019. <\/p>\n
\nAuthorities have indicated that her death is not being treated as suspicious.<\/p>\n
\nThe SXSW event, now set to honour Michelle\u2019s memory, was intended to support mental health charities, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness. <\/p>\n
\n\u2018Spyral\u2019, directed by Bill Guttentag, features Michelle narrating diary entries of Michelle Cody White, who suffered from undiagnosed bipolar depression prior to her death. <\/p>\n
\nThe film\u2019s release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with filmmakers seeking wide distribution.<\/p>\n
\nMichelle began her acting career at the age of three and gained prominence with roles in \u2018Harriet the Spy\u2019 and \u2018EuroTrip\u2019. <\/p>\n
\nDespite her early success, she had stepped back from Hollywood in recent years. <\/p>\n
\nA friend said: \u201cShe really pulled back from Hollywood in the last eight years.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nAnother source noted Michelle had been \u201creally, really down emotionally\u201d and had \u201ctold friends she was struggling\u201d over the past year.<\/p>\n
\nTributes have poured in from friends and co-stars since her death, with Sarah Michelle Gellar, who portrayed her on-screen sister in \u2018Buffy the Vampire Slayer\u2019, sharing a heartfelt message in which she paraphrased a speech from the series. <\/p>\n
\nPrincess Eugenie, also a long-time friend of the actress, described Michelle as \u201cthoughtful, generous and funny\u201d. Blake Lively and other ‘Gossip Girl’ co-stars also expressed their condolences.<\/p>\n
