\u201cexternal trauma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair were discovered lifeless in their New Mexico residence on Wednesday and were subsequently \u201ctransported to the Office of the Medical Investigator,\u201d according to a news release from the Santa Fe County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn autopsy was performed,\u201d the statement, obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/gene-hackman-betsy-arakawa-suspicious-death-b2706473.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/gene-hackman-betsy-arakawa-suspicious-death-b2706473.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Independent<\/a> Thursday (Feb. 27, 2025), continued. \u201cInitial findings noted no external trauma to either individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The release mentioned that \u201cthis remains an open investigation\u201d while official autopsy and toxicology results are pending.<\/p>\n<p>Santa Fe County Sheriff <strong>Adan Mendoza<\/strong> confirmed there weren\u2019t any \u201capparent signs of foul play\u201d though he characterized the deaths as \u201cunusual.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1160\" \u2014 one inside and another outside the property.<\/p>\n<p>Arakawa and the deceased canine were discovered in a bathroom where \u201cpills scattered\u201d were found nearby.<\/p>\n<p>The piano virtuoso had apparently been deceased \u201cfor some time\u201d with her remains showing indications of \u201cmummification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hackman was \u201clocated in a separate room of the residence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the actor\u2019s relatives initially thought carbon monoxide might be responsible, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2025\/02\/27\/gene-hackman-death-911-call-bodies-found\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2025\/02\/27\/gene-hackman-death-911-call-bodies-found\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TMZ<\/a>, a search warrant accessed by the outlet indicated there were \u201cno obvious signs of a gas leak.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
