{"id":152556,"date":"2025-02-26T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-26T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/26\/here-are-all-the-tech-companies-rolling-back-dei-or-still-committed-to-it-so-far-techcrunch\/"},"modified":"2025-02-26T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T20:00:00","slug":"here-are-all-the-tech-companies-rolling-back-dei-or-still-committed-to-it-so-far-techcrunch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/26\/here-are-all-the-tech-companies-rolling-back-dei-or-still-committed-to-it-so-far-techcrunch\/","title":{"rendered":"Here are all the tech companies rolling back DEI or still committed to it \u2014 so far | TechCrunch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies around America have started cutting DEI programs and eliminating DEI commitments from public documents in response to legal and political threats from the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just a few weeks ago, Attorney General Pam Bondi<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/ag\/media\/1388501\/dl?inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> instructed<\/a> the Department of Justice to \u201cinvestigate, eliminate, and penalize,\u201d DEI programs deemed illegal in private sector companies that receive federal funds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump has signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/01\/23\/nx-s1-5271588\/trump-dei-diversity-equity-inclusion-federal-workers-government\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">executive order banning<\/a> DEI in the federal government with the approval of his right-hand companion Elon Musk, an immigrant from South Africa and a long-time denouncer of DEI.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reaction to the government\u2019s anti-diversity push has taken many forms. One contractor said NASA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/feb\/11\/trump-dei-nasa-executive-order\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">has started to scrub<\/a> mention of terms like \u201cenvironmental justice\u201d or \u201canything specifically targeting women.\u201d PBS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/02\/11\/nx-s1-5293292\/pbs-shutters-dei-office-diversity-equity-inclusion-trump-executive-order\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">had to shutter<\/a> its DEI office.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/companies-cutting-dei-activist-backlash-harley-davidson-deere-tractor-supply-2024-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">corporate America<\/a>, McDonald\u2019s, Harley-Davidson, Booz Allen, John Deere, Tractor Supply Company, Polaris, Lowe\u2019s, Ford, Molson Coors, Walmart, Nissan, Accenture, and Target, among others, have all announced some form of rollback to their DEI policies. Goldman Sachs said in February that it would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/11\/business\/trump-dei-wall-street.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ditch its requirement<\/a> for corporate boards filing to go public to include women and people of color.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other companies are trying to strike a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8e01f7fd-71a2-42ff-b166-5bf9f6177b73\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">balance<\/a>. Some companies like Apple, Costco, Delta, McKinsey, and JPMorgan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/nbcblk\/delta-air-lines-costco-companies-say-ll-stick-dei-rcna189669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">have indicated a commitment<\/a> to sticking with their diversity efforts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-02-06\/zoom-dei-workers-fired-in-recent-round-of-job-cuts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">companies like Telsa<\/a>, GameStop, Workday, and Salesforce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/diversity-goals-are-disappearing-from-companies-annual-reports-459d1ef3?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">started scrubbing<\/a> mentions of DEI from their 10-K filings, a trend that has accelerated so far this year. Here\u2019s a list of where DEI stands, so far, among tech companies in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ve reached out to each of the companies for comment.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-amazon-nbsp\"><strong>Amazon\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amazon\u2019s website \u201cpositions\u201d page still showcases its diversity, equity, and inclusion commitment. However, it is winding down some DEI\u00a0 \u201coutdated programs and materials,\u201d according to a leaked memo reported by Bloomberg. It removed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/amazon-downplays-dei-meta-plays-up-free-speech-as-tech-tilts-right?rc=48qqgg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a post from 2021<\/a> that expressed a focus on DEI and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/02\/07\/amazon-deletes-inclusion-and-diversity-language-in-latest-filing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">removed some mentions of diversity<\/a> from its latest annual 10-K report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-apple\"><strong>Apple<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/diversity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">website<\/a> still says, as it has for years, \u201cWe\u2019re continuing to create a culture of inclusion, increasing representation across teams, and holding ourselves accountable at every level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shareholders at Apple\u2019s latest meeting<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/apple-investors-reject-proposal-against-dei-policies-2025-02-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> rejected a proposal <\/a>from a conservative group to strike DEI complies from the companies. Apple previously advised its shareholders to vote against the proposal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-google-nbsp\"><strong>Google\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google is eliminating diversity hiring targets and evaluating releasing new diversity reports, which it\u2019s done since 2014, The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/google-kills-diversity-hiring-targets-04433d7c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Wall Street Journal reported<\/a>. It also said it would review its DEI initiatives to ensure all comply with the latest executive orders aimed at curbing DEI.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google updated its 10-K filing, making no mention of diversity in its latest one, compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/02\/07\/pinterest-lists-dei-attacks-as-possible-business-risk-latest-filing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the eight times<\/a> it was mentioned in its 2023 filing. Late last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/02\/11\/google-says-it-removed-cultural-events-from-its-calender-in-mid-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it removed many cultural events <\/a>from the default Google Calendar.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ibm-nbsp\"><strong>IBM\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IBM still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/impact\/be-equal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">has its inclusion page up.<\/a> Working with a shareholder, the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/02\/10\/dei-shareholder-proposals-2025-diveristy-inclusion-corporate-battle-apple-coca-cola-ibm-berkshire-hathaway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">requested the company<\/a> drop its DEI pay incentive targets, though IBM has moved to block the proposal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-intel-nbsp\"><strong>Intel\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Intel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/portland\/news\/2025\/02\/07\/intel-pulls-back-on-dei.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">cut back some of the language<\/a> about DEI on its recent 10-K filing and removed some diversity targets. On its website, though, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/policy\/policy-diversity-inclusion.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">company still states that<\/a> \u201cdiversity and inclusion are among the most important forces driving the company\u2019s evolution and reinvention.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta is eliminating some DEI programs targeting hiring, suppliers, and training according to a leaked internal memo reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/01\/10\/meta-dei-programs-employees-trump?stream=top&amp;utm_source=alert&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=alerts_all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Axios<\/a>. Meta also said it eliminated its DEI team and end representation goals as the latter to eliminate any impression \u201cthat decisions are being made based on race or gender,\u201d the memo read. \u201cWhile this has never been our practice, we want to eliminate any impression of it.\u201d Meta declined to comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-microsoft\"><strong>Microsoft<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Microsoft released <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/blog\/2024\/10\/23\/microsofts-2024-global-diversity-inclusion-report-our-most-global-transparent-report-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">its 2024 inclusion report<\/a> in October where CEO Satay Nadella reiterated the importance of a diverse workforce. However, in July of that year Microsoft laid off its internal DEI team because of \u201cchanging business needs,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/microsoft-layoffs-dei-leader-email-2024-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a memo leaked to<\/a> Business Insider.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nvidia\"><strong>NVIDIA<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nvidia still has its \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/about-nvidia\/careers\/diversity-and-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">diversity, inclusion, and belonging<\/a>\u201d page up and released its 2024 Sustainability Report where it has a section still dedicated to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/images.nvidia.com\/aem-dam\/Solutions\/documents\/FY2024-NVIDIA-Corporate-Sustainability-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">people, diversity and inclusion<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-openai-nbsp\"><strong>OpenAI\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenAI quietly <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/02\/13\/openai-scrubs-diversity-commitment-web-page-from-its-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">changed its \u201cCommitment to Diversity\u201d website<\/a> to now read \u201cBuilding Dynamic Teams,\u201d and removed all mention of diversity and inclusion from the webpage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-oracle-nbsp\"><strong>Oracle\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oracle still has its \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oracle.com\/in\/careers\/culture-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Culture and Inclusion<\/a>\u201d page up, which reads that \u201cdiverse perspectives make our teams stronger and empower collaboration.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-salesforce\"><strong>Salesforce<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Salesforce swabbed\u00a0 mention of its diversity targets in its 2023 10-K filing, it still released a 2024 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/annual-equality-update-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">equality update<\/a>.\u201d In that update, the company reiterated its commitment to diverse representation and how much more it still needs to achieve. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mRDDBzDPsBI&amp;ab_channel=Axios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a conversation with Axios recently, <\/a>CEO Marc Benioff said he would stand by his employees amid the Trump\u2019s administration\u2019s anti-DEI orders.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-telsa-nbsp\"><strong>Telsa\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/01\/business\/tesla-dei-elon-musk\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">scrubbed mention<\/a> of diversity, equity, and inclusion from its 10-K last year. Elon Musk, the CEO of the company, is an outspoken critic of DEI. The company only released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/blog\/us-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">one <\/a>diversity, equity, and inclusion report, back in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-workday\"><strong>Workday<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Workday<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/diversity-goals-are-disappearing-from-companies-annual-reports-459d1ef3?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> erased mention<\/a> of diversity targets in its 2023 10-K form after expressing commitment to increase the representation of Black and Latinos at the company, its DEI page is still up on the website. On that page, the company wrote that \u201cdiversity isn\u2019t just a business imperative. It\u2019s core to everything we do.\u201d It released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workday.com\/content\/dam\/web\/en-us\/documents\/other\/workday-global-impact-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2024 Global Impact Report<\/a> and it still has a chief diversity officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-zoom-nbsp\"><strong>Zoom\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zoom laid off its DEI team during a round of layoffs last year, telling staff it would work with external consultants who will engage \u201call of our employees,\u201d while focusing on \u201cinclusion,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-02-06\/zoom-dei-workers-fired-in-recent-round-of-job-cuts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a memo leaked to Bloomberg.<\/a> It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoom.com\/en\/blog\/zoom-dei-inaugural-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">doesn\u2019t appear<\/a> to have released a diversity report since 2022, the first of which came out in 2020, according to its website.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/02\/26\/here-are-all-the-tech-companies-rolling-back-dei-or-still-committed-to-it-so-far\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Companies around America have started cutting DEI programs and eliminating DEI commitments from public documents in response to legal and political threats from the Trump administration.
