Mikey Madison has opened up about her preparations for her role in Anora<\/p>\n
\nThe 25-year-old actress portrays the titular stripper in director Sean Baker\u2019s dark romantic comedy and she enjoyed the \u201cchallenge\u201d of her dancing scenes.<\/p>\n
\nShe told Britain\u2019s HELLO! magazine: \u201cI had to learn how to give lap dances and do pole tricks. I even helped choreograph a striptease dance that Ani does for Ivan.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAll of that was based on the intensive training I did so I\u2019d be able to give a lap dance from start to finish\u2026<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m not a dancer at all, so it was great to challenge myself. The choreographer taught me how to dance like a real erotic dancer.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThat was helpful in terms of physicality and sensuality, how I\u2019d carry myself and walk in heels.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMikey hailed her research for the role a very \u201cmeaningful experience\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nShe explained: \u201cIt was a meaningful experience, getting to know and understand the sex work community.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI spoke to some incredible consultants who were able to breathe a lot of honesty and life into Ani and I was able to integrate what I learned into the film.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo stepping into her shoes \u2013 her pleasers, to be literal – was really fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd the \u2018Better Things\u2019 actress thinks her \u2018Anora\u2019 role is the \u201cmost special\u201d she\u2019s ever had.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThere were so many lessons I learned from making this film.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI can honestly say she\u2019s one of the most special characters I\u2019ve ever played.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd she was flattered that director Sean wanted her for his movie.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cSean has dedicated his career to destigmatizing sex work and telling stories about marginalized people.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe deals with a lot of dark subject matter but he\u2019s constantly injecting it with humour. So I trusted Sean completely.\u201d<\/p>\n
