Love Is Blind<\/em><\/a> fans quickly called out season 8 star Dave Bettenburg<\/strong> for his behavior on the show, including the fact that he spoke about his sister so much and made several harsh jokes. In light of the backlash, the Netflix star has addressed why his sister came up so often in conversations.<\/p>\n During the first six episodes of season 8, which premiered on February 14, fans watched Dave, 33, explain to his potential love interests that he was worried how his sister would react to him leaving the pods engaged. He also noted several times that she was not optimistic<\/a> about his time on the show.<\/p>\n Despite expressing his sister\u2019s hesitations, Dave explained that his sister was \u201ctaking it in stride\u201d when he appeared on the Tuesday, February 18, episode of \u201cThe Viall Files\u201d podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe internet is just insane, because apparently having a good relationship with your sister is a bad thing. Sorry, she\u2019s cool. Whatever,\u201d Dave said in response to the backlash. \u201cI think she\u2019s doing OK. If she was struggling with it, she would have been talking with me and texting me a lot. I think she\u2019s doing alright.\u201d<\/p>\n Not only were fans confused by Dave\u2019s decision to frequently bring up his sister, but he also faced backlash for making harsh jokes to women while in the pods.<\/p>\n \u201cThe crazy thing about that is \u2026 if you kind of understand that humor or whatever, people can tell it was a joke,\u201d he said. \u201c[My eventual fianc\u00e9e] Lauren [O\u2019Brien]<\/strong><\/a>, I think she handled it really well and we kind of connected after that and hit it off.\u201d<\/p>\n One joke that many people were offended by was when Dave asked several of the women, \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong with you?\u201d as an icebreaker in the pods.<\/p>\n While not everyone appreciated the joke, Dave insisted that he was \u201chappy\u201d with his opening line. \u201cIt landed with a lot of women, honestly. It made things fun. I have a personality, so I was happy to, like, show that side of me,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt also weeded out a lot of the people that I didn\u2019t connect with. It helped me get there a little bit quicker. I like to keep things light, you know, keep it fun and honestly that came out in the speed date portion right away. I was just trying to have some fun with it and see who I connected with.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI mean I talked a lot, you\u2019re in those pods for hours on end and, like, there\u2019s just a lot of stuff you talk about,\u201d Dave continued. \u201cThat\u2019s a really important piece of, like, a partner that I was looking for. I want to be able to have fun with that partner. I feel like I just want to be myself and make sure people understand me for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
