Bailey Nune and John Nolan have weathered many storms on The Rookie<\/em><\/a> \u2014 but has their latest snag derailed their future parenting plans?<\/p>\n

Warning: Spoilers below for The Rookie season 7, episode 7.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, we\u2019re focusing on that \u2014 the healing and their love,\u201d Jenna Dewan<\/strong><\/a>, who plays firefighter Bailey on the ABC series, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> of Bailey and Nolan\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

She noted that the TV couple are also dealing with the \u201ccomplexities of their very intense life-threatening jobs that always bring something to the playing field that they have to contend with.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the Tuesday, February 18, episode of The Rookie<\/em><\/a>, Bailey finally admitted to herself that she was a victim of domestic violence. The revelation came after she spoke with another female survivor, who gave Bailey permission to call herself a \u201cvictim\u201d after years of being terrorized by her ex-husband, Jason<\/a> (Steve Kazee<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

While Jason was killed earlier this season, he continued to haunt Bailey and her marriage with Nolan (Nathan Fillion<\/strong><\/a>). Bailey and Nolan argued<\/a> over the fact that Bailey was in contact with the hitman who ultimately killed Jason, as Nolan is a member of law enforcement and said she was breaking laws.<\/p>\n

\u201cPsychologically that\u2019s not the easiest thing to just, you know, snap your fingers and be over. Even though the physical threat of Jason is gone, psychologically and emotionally he lives on<\/a>,\u201d Dewan, 44, explained to Us<\/em>. \u201cIt takes work on Bailey\u2019s part to heal from that. Nolan has a huge part in that because he accepts her, and he shows her that he will love her no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n

She revealed, \u201cUnconditional love, you know, at the end of the day is one of the greatest healing forces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dewan noted that when Bailey was able to accept the label of \u201cvictim\u201d she was also able to fully let Nolan in, which was part of their struggle as a couple.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat moment of vulnerability for her is huge. [It] is the key that unlocks the future healing that comes for her,\u201d the actress said, adding that although the trauma is \u201cnot gone\u201d and will \u201ctake a bit of time\u201d to work through, Jason\u2019s death does push Bailey forward.<\/p>\n

Dewan pointed out<\/a>, \u201cThere is a freedom without the physical presence of her nightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nolan\u2019s ability to put aside his bruised ego \u2014 he was upset she kept the hitman conversation a secret \u2014 and think about his wife as a victim also helped the couple heal together.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe ultimately goes, \u2018OK, the person I love was a victim. And the person I love was given a reason to have her nightmare not be a part of our life anymore. Now, how that went down is complicated, but I can at least understand her and see and have empathy for her because I love her,\u2019\u201d Dewan shared.<\/p>\n

At the end of the episode, Nolan apologized for making Bailey feel unsupported in her quest to get Jason out of her life once and for all. Their conversation marks the end of that dark chapter, according to Dewan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they are deciding, in that moment, to move forward together<\/a>,\u201d she told Us<\/em>, adding that while the couple\u2019s trust issues still linger \u201ca tiny bit\u201d their ability to admit to and acknowledge \u201ceach other\u2019s vulnerabilities\u201d help them \u201cmove forward and just sort of accept\u201d what happened.<\/p>\n

That positive trajectory, however, won\u2019t include expanding their family \u2014 at least not right away.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJenna Dewan is happy her eldest daughter, Everly, is a fan of her show The Rookie \u2014 but one of her treacherous stunts almost turned the 11-year-old off it for good. \u201cIt\u2019s funny, we just started watching it because [I] had all these 10-year-olds coming up to me and saying, \u2018I love The Rookie,\u2019\u201d Dewan, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s off the table just at the moment,\u201d Dewan said of Bailey and Nolan\u2019s choice to press pause on their efforts to have or adopt a baby.\u00a0\u201cI think they realize, \u2018Hold on, we have some really intense lives, and I don\u2019t think either of us are really in the position to be taking care of a baby. So we don\u2019t want to bring something into our life that therefore we\u2019re not able to be the most responsible for.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
