Steven Krueger<\/strong><\/a> and girlfriend Candice King<\/strong><\/a> both had big roles in The Vampire Diaries<\/em><\/a> universe \u2014 but fans only remember one of them.<\/p>\n

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly,<\/em> Krueger, 35, joked about the reaction when he and King, 37, are spotted in public, saying, \u201cAnytime I\u2019m walking around with Candice, it\u2019s always like, \u2018Oh my God Caroline!\u2019 And then they do a double take and they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, right. yeah. And what was your character\u2019s name again? From The Originals<\/em>?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Yep, that was me.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Krueger noted his appreciation for The Vampire Diaries<\/em> fans. \u201cI\u2019m always amazed at how many people still recognize me from The Originals<\/em> [though]. That show hasn\u2019t been on in five years,\u201d he quipped. \u201cPeople can watch it all over the place, which is great. That\u2019s one of the beautiful parts of that whole Vampire Diaries<\/em> universe is it\u2019s really had some staying power and it\u2019s continuing to garner new fan bases just with it being available on streaming.\u201d<\/p>\n

The best part has been connecting with viewers \u2014 regardless of what project they know him from.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAlthough Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Claire Holt and more cast members from The Originals have moved on from the CW drama, the feeling of family created on the show lives on. The Originals premiered in October 2013 as the first spinoff of The Vampire Diaries. After introducing the Mikaelson family on the long-running\u00a0series, fans followed [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYellowjackets<\/em> is a little bit more in the zeitgeist right now and at the top of people\u2019s minds. It\u2019s definitely Yellowjackets at the moment,\u201d Krueger said about being recognized for his role as Coach Ben Scott on the Showtime series. \u201cBut I love interacting with fans. It\u2019s been so fun. You go back 10 or 15 years and you tell yourself when you\u2019re first thinking about getting into this industry that somewhere down the line you\u2019re going to walk down the street and people are going to say, \u2018Hey Steven, I know you from this.\u2019 That experience and that phenomenon is still mind-blowing to me. I feel incredibly grateful that I\u2019m in a position like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before Yellowjackets<\/em>, Krueger rose to fame playing Josh Rosza on The Originals<\/em>. After The Vampire Diaries<\/em> came to an end, Krueger found love with King, who played Caroline Forbes on TVD<\/em> from 2009 to 2017. The couple confirmed their romance in December 2023<\/a> and have continued to support each other\u2019s projects \u2014 including King with Krueger\u2019s role on the hit series.<\/p>\n

\u201cCandice is a fan of the show and she wanted to murder me if I gave her any spoilers this season. She loves watching it and that was a thing that she discussed with me before we left to film. I thought she was joking at first, but she was like, \u2018Look at my face. I\u2019m dead serious. I don\u2019t want to know anything,’\u201d he recalled to Us<\/em>. \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, how do I talk to you about work?\u2019 She\u2019s like, \u2018Maybe you don\u2019t talk to me about work.\u2019 She is very serious about not wanting to know what happens in the show. She wants to find out for herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krueger recalled an instance where he accidentally broke the promise<\/a> by calling King from set.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Vampire Diaries didn\u2019t just have countless couples on screen \u2014 many cast members found love with their costars or members of the extended franchise. After The Vampire Diaries debuted on The CW in 2009, viewers quickly got invested in the supernatural events taking place in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. At the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cNobody wants a spoiler because the way that the story is told is so damn entertaining and so just edge of your seat that it kind of ruins it when you find out something in advance. I remember I FaceTimed Candice at one point and I was in my trailer but I did have on wardrobe and costume,\u201d he shared. \u201cShe saw something, a tiny little thing as part of my wardrobe, and was like, \u2018Oh, I cannot believe you are on FaceTime.\u2019 So it\u2019s little stuff like that. But that\u2019s the beauty of this show. There\u2019s little Easter eggs just all over the place and that\u2019s what makes it so fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite meeting through their individual<\/a> involvement in The Vampire Diaries<\/em> universe, Krueger and King have yet to share the screen. They aren\u2019t ruling it out though, with Krueger telling Us<\/em>, \u201cWe joked around about it. Part of the beauty of this industry is you never know what\u2019s going to happen. We do have a lot of the same friends who are producers and writers so I\u2019m sure that at some point somewhere down the road, that\u2019s definitely a possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krueger has no doubt he and King \u201cwould crush it\u201d as costars.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019d be really fun. We\u2019re not the kind of people that are super precious about, like, \u2018Oh, I need my space. I need to work and focus and all this,\u201d he noted. \u201cI\u2019m sure that\u2019d be a great time. If you want to write a movie for us, by all means, go for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Krueger waits for the perfect project to work on with King, he is celebrating the return of Yellowjackets<\/em>. Season 3 picks up six months after Coach Ben removed himself from the group stranded in the wilderness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe really interesting thing about the beginning of season 3 is the juxtaposition between how the girls were living and how Coach Ben is living. Obviously he is on his own now. He is fully focused on survival at this point. He has very few resources,\u201d Krueger noted. \u201cHe has found this shelter, which is great. And that\u2019s kind of been what\u2019s keeping him alive and he\u2019s been able to make do with what he has. But when they cut to the girls and what they\u2019ve been able to accomplish, it\u2019s night and day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krueger is excited to explore the \u201creally interesting dichotomy\u201d between the groups. \u201cYou really see what somebody goes through when they are forced to just survive off of very minimal resources vs. when you have a team of people that really do come together and work together,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe glow up that happens to the girls at the beginning of this season \u2026 they\u2019re kind of thriving in a way vs. when you cut to Ben Scott. I don\u2019t know how much longer this guy has.\u201d<\/p>\n
