Elizabeth Holmes<\/a>,<\/strong> the Theranos founder<\/a> who is serving an 11-year sentence for fraud, has described her life behind bars as \u201chell and torture,\u201d in her first interview from prison, published in People<\/em> on Wednesday.<\/a><\/p>\n Before reporting to Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas in May 2023, Holmes welcomed two children with partner Billy Evans<\/strong>, significantly drawing out the timeline of her trial process. The timing of the pregnancies, she told People<\/em>, \u201cwasn\u2019t planned and I can\u2019t worry about what others think.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI know how the optics look, but I always wanted to be a mother,\u201d Holmes said.<\/p>\n There\u2019s 3-year-old son William<\/strong>, whose July 2021 birth further pushed back her thrice-postponed trial, and 2-year-old daughter Invicta<\/strong> (meaning \u201cinvincible\u201d), who was conceived after Holmes\u2019 January 2022 conviction and born about three months before Holmes she began serving time. Holmes\u2019 team cited the two young children when they asked for a lighter sentence.<\/p>\n \u201cI truly did not think I would ever be convicted or found guilty,\u201d she insisted. \u201cI kept talking to my lawyers and they also assured me we would never get this far.\u201d<\/p>\n She maintains her innocence, and pled not guilty in her trial, where she was ultimately found guilty<\/a> of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, of an initial 11 charges, and said in the interview that \u201cthere are things I would have done differently.\u201d<\/p>\n Still: \u201cI received a considerable amount of time I wasn\u2019t expecting,\u201d she said. \u201cI always wanted a big family, Billy wanted even more kids.\u201d<\/p>\n
