According to a new poll, 44% of Republicans don\u2019t want former President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/strong> to run again for reelection.<\/p>\n The\u00a0poll, conducted by AP-NORC<\/a>, asked respondents for their thoughts about Trump\u2019s 2024 run, his ongoing investigations and the recent indictment in the Manhattan case regarding the hush money payment to porn star\u00a0Stormy Daniels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Overall, 70% of respondents said they did not want Trump to run again, and 57% said the indictment was justified. However, unsurprisingly, only 25% of Republicans said that the indictment was justified, compared to 90% of Democrats.<\/p>\n The party divide remained prominent across respondents\u2019 views on the ongoing investigations into the former president. While few Republicans expressed that Trump\u2019s actions in the Capitol riot, Trump\u2019s handling of the classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago, or his alleged interference in the Georgia election were illegal, the majority of Democrats expressed the opposite.<\/p>\n The poll comes as a number of Republicans are jumping into the 2024 presidential race to rival Trump. Earlier this month, former Arkansas Governor\u00a0Asa Hutchinson<\/strong>\u00a0announced he was running<\/a>. Former UN ambassador\u00a0Nikki Haley<\/strong> and entrepreneur\u00a0Vivek Ramaswamy<\/strong> also threw their hats in the ring for the Republican nomination.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Republicans most perceived to be top Trump rivals\u2014Florida Governor\u00a0Ron DeSantis<\/strong> and former Vice President\u00a0Mike Pence<\/strong>\u2014have yet to formally announce their White House runs, but\u00a0are expected<\/a> to make their bids soon. Pence said last week that he will make a decision\u00a0\u201cin weeks and not months<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n In the AP-NORC poll, when asked which possible 2024 presidential candidates they found favorable, 68% of Republicans said they have a favorable view of Trump, and 63% of Republicans said they have a favorable view of DeSantis. Other\u00a0recent<\/a>\u00a0polls<\/a> have shown Trump leading DeSantis. Trump has recognized that DeSantis appears to be his closest competitor; perhaps that\u2019s why a recent Trump campaign email took aim at the Florida governor.<\/p>\n Spokesperson\u00a0Steven Cheung<\/strong> is quoted in a campaign email sent on Friday blasting DeSantis: \u201cThe real DeSantis record is one of misery and despair. He has left a wake of destruction all across Florida and people are hurting because he has spent more time playing public relations games instead of actually doing the hard-work needed to improve the lives of the people he represents.\u201d<\/p>\n The Trump campaign email also said Florida was\u00a0\u201camong the worst states<\/a>\u201d\u2014despite the fact that Trump resides in the state. The email outlined how expensive it is to live in the state and listed the state\u2019s low rank in a number of categories, including saying that Florida \u201cwas the worst state in the country for resources related to elder abuse protections.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Despite lambasting Florida in a campaign message on Friday, in a speech\u2014delivered on the same day\u2014Trump warmly greeted a crowd in Lee County, Florida, calling it\u00a0\u201ca great state. Great place<\/a>.\u201d The former president continued, \u201cThe great state of Florida has been among the most hotly contested swing states in the nation. But today Florida is no longer a swing state because we turned it into a red state.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
