Barry Keoghan has relished being in the ‘same time zone’ as his little boy and seeing him ‘whenever I want’<\/p>\n
The \u2018Saltburn\u2019 star has relished being able to see his two-year-old son Brando \u2013 whom he has with ex-partner Alyson Kierans \u2013\u201cwhenever I want\u201d.<\/p>\n
He told The Hollywood Reporter of being in the British capital: \u201cIt’s great. You know what? It’s just nice being back. My little boy is here and it’s so good. Just being in the same time zone as him and getting to see him whenever I want and spending some quality dad time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 54-year-old Irish actor also revealed his English fans are \u201cvery respectful\u201d when he\u2019s out with his son.<\/p>\n
Asked if people approach him much in London, he said: \u201cIt depends. It’s not crazy. I say I’ve got a good fan base that are very respectful. Especially if they see you with your child, they’re not going to be weird and that. The English are quite good that way. They’re stubborn in a way. There’s a bit of a pride thing going on.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nIn November, Barry revealed sickening social media trolls reverted to calling him a “deadbeat dad” when he started posting less of his son online.<\/p>\n
\nBarry previously opened up about his own absent father and how he doesn’t have a \u201cnormal father-son relationship\u201d with his little boy because he didn’t have a “blueprint” to take from his own dad.<\/p>\n
\nAnd he admits that if he didn’t have a “tough skin”, he wouldn’t be able to cope with the number of nasty comments he gets on social media, particularly the ones accusing him of being an “absent father”.<\/p>\n
\nAppearing on ‘The Louis Theroux Podcast’, he said: \u201cThere\u2019s a lot online. If I didn\u2019t have tough skin or the strength to have, I wouldn\u2019t be sitting here.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cOf course, [his childhood is] going to affect me being a father when I had no blueprint to take from. People just read that [as] laziness and go, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s no excuse to be an absent father.\u2019 I\u2019m not an absent father. But it\u2019s just, again, people love to use my son as ammunition or whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe continued: \u201cAnd it kind of leads me to stop, the more attention I\u2019ve [gotten] lately and the more in the public I\u2019ve become, the less I\u2019ve posted about my child, because I don\u2019t think it\u2019s fair to put my child online. And because I reigned that in, people draw a narrative and go, \u2018Absent father, s***, deadbeat dad,\u2019 and more disgusting things I wouldn\u2019t even repeat. Just the audacity of some people, man. It sickens me, makes me furious.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhen Louis suggested Barry should stop going on social media, he insisted he’s “curious” about the “slander” being spread about his character and his appearance.<\/p>\n
\nHowever, he has used the blocked words feature so he doesn’t see the comments that affect him the most.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cWhen I\u2019ve got a bit of time, I am a curious being like all of us, and you want to know what [people are saying online], especially when it\u2019s slander and when it\u2019s bad comments attacking my appearance or attacking me as a father.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ve even blocked out certain words because I don\u2019t want to read that. Stuff like my son \u2013 people don\u2019t deserve to put that in a sentence, anything. I\u2019m just trying to make a living, trying to get a good body of work and create safety for my child.\u201d<\/p>\n
