Alicia Keys<\/strong><\/a> has been falling even more in love with her husband, Swizz Beatz<\/strong><\/a>, with every decade, but she didn\u2019t instantly connect with her partner.<\/p>\n

Keys first crossed paths with Beatz (real name Kasseem Daoud Dean) in the \u201890s when they were both teenagers living in New York. \u201cWe talked for a minute about nothing deep, and then as I walked off, he asked if we could exchange numbers,\u201d Keys revealed in her 2020 memoir, More Myself<\/em>. \u201cI was like, \u2018Nah, I\u2019m good. I\u2019ll just see you when I see you.’\u201d<\/p>\n

By the mid-2000s, the pair had begun working on music together before connecting romantically, and in 2010, they got married. Keys and Beatz have since welcomed two sons and learned each other\u2019s rhythm.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand each other and we communicate,\u201d Beatz exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> in June 2019 of the couple\u2019s secret to a happy marriage. \u201cWe\u2019re just the f\u2013king best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mid-1990s <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Keys revealed in her 2020 memoir, More Myself<\/em>, that she met Beatz when she was 14 and he was 16. The twosome had mutual friends in the Bronx.<\/p>\n

2008<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The pair continued to run in the same circles for years before their relationship turned romantic. Keys and Beatz began dating after he split from Mashonda Tifrere<\/strong> in 2008<\/a>. (Beatz and Tifrere, who share son Kasseem Jr., finalized their divorce in 2010. Beatz also shares son Prince with ex Nicole Levy<\/strong> and daughter Nicole with ex Jahna Sebastian<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

January 2009 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Beatz proposed to Keys on her birthday.<\/p>\n

July 2010<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The musicians tied the knot during an intimate ceremony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Keys was pregnant with her and Beatz\u2019s first child when they said \u201cI do.\u201d<\/p>\n

October 2010 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The couple welcomed their first son, Egypt.<\/p>\n

July 2013 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The \u201cGirl on Fire\u201d singer confessed to Marie Claire U.K.<\/em><\/a> that it wasn\u2019t love at first sight with her and Beatz. \u201cHonestly, I didn\u2019t really like him that much,\u201d Keys said of their initial meeting. \u201cI thought he was too ostentatious.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained, \u201cSwizz will have the fastest car, the biggest jewelry, the loudest jacket. Everything with him is really over the top. I used to see him and think, \u2018He is so annoying.’\u201d I<\/p>\n

n time, she warmed up to Beatz and the pair began working together before becoming a couple.<\/p>\n

December 2014 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Keys gave birth to her and Beatz\u2019s second son, Genesis.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re even more in love, more full of potential and more excited about our future,\u201d Keys wrote via Instagram<\/a>, paying homage to her husband. \u201cWe look at each other with the wonder of a child and I\u2019m in awe of us everyday!\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI\u2019m proud of the love we emanate and share with all we connect with and I can\u2019t wait for every day of the rest of our lives!! \u201cI think my wife inspired me to be a better artist just by letting me have my freedom,\u201d Beatz gushed to Us<\/em>. \u201cWe let each other have our freedom, we don\u2019t own each other and we just let things flow. We have fun and we support each other\u2019s passions. I think that\u2019s the key to happiness, honestly.\u201d<\/p>\n

August 2020 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

When Keys became \u201cthe most certified female R&B artist of the millennium,\u201d Beatz couldn\u2019t help but gush about her accomplishment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is serious! The highest selling R&B female artist of the decade, 16 million worldwide, beating everybody \u2014 everybody,\u201d he said in an Instagram video<\/a>, poking fun at how Keys was celebrating. \u201cAnd you\u2019re just going to walk around the house, wash dishes, don\u2019t say nothing about that?\u201d After sharing a laugh with his spouse, Beatz added, \u201cThat\u2019s big. October 2021 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Keys dedicated her song \u201cBest of Me\u201d to her husband, including him in the romantic music video. \u201cThis song continues to give me chills. As do you @therealswizzz \ud83d\ude0d\ud83d\ude0d\ud83d\ude0d,\u201d she revealed via social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

January 2022 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

When Beatz won GQ\u2019s<\/em> Man of the Year, his wife joined him at the awards ceremony for the ultimate \u201cdate night.\u201d Keys later gushed<\/a>, \u201cHe\u2019s the MAN of EVERY YEAR \ud83c\udfc6\ud83c\udfc6\ud83c\udfc6\ud83c\udfc6\ud83d\ude24\ud83d\ude24\ud83d\ude24\ud83d\ude24\ud83d\udcaf\ud83d\udcaf\ud83d\udcaf\ud83d\udcaf like seriously this king is literally like no one I\u2019ve EVER known!!! The musician took a break from wearing makeup in 2016, a decision she has since explained she made in order to help other women feel more comfortable in their own skin. \u201cI realized I became [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Keys toasted to her husband\u2019s birthday by throwing a lavish party in his honor. \u201cMy love! There are no words to describe this special year and how special YOU are!! January 2024 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a real Queen BDAY \ud83c\udf89The 25th of Jan never felt so blessed,\u201d Beatz wrote via his Instagram tribute<\/a> to Keys. \u201cI wish you many more blessings on your amazing journey \ud83e\udd0d We love you and sending the Biggest love to you Queen AK.\u201d<\/p>\n

February 2024<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Keys and Beatz teamed up with the Brooklyn Museum to put their private collection of art on display for a new exhibit called \u201cGiants.\u201d Their curated pieces feature the works of nearly 40 Black artists and will be available to see in person until July 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a portion of our collection that we\u2019ve been collecting for the past 20 years,\u201d Keys explained during a joint appearance on the Today<\/em> show<\/a>. Beatz added, \u201cWe collect from our heart. It\u2019s not transactional for us. All of the artists that\u2019s living, that\u2019s in the show, are actually friends. They come to our house and stay at our house.\u201d<\/p>\n
