At the Grammys 2025<\/a> Sunday in Los Angeles, Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> nabbed her first-ever win for album of the year for Cowboy Carter,<\/em> her country concept album<\/a>. She has been nominated four times prior for her albums I Am\u2026Sasha Fierce, Beyonc\u00e9, Lemonade,<\/em> and Renaissance.<\/em><\/p>\n Though she\u2019s been waiting a long time to hear her name called\u2014her first nomination in the category was in 2010\u2014Beyonc\u00e9 kept her speech short and sweet, bringing daughter Blue Ivy<\/strong> up to the stage with her as the audience gave her a standing ovation.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s been many, many years,\u201d she said. \u201cI just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, all of the hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n She dedicated the win to \u201cMiss Martell\u201d\u2014that would be country music pioneer Linda Martell<\/strong>, the first Black solo female country artist to play the Grand Ole Opry, and whom Beyonc\u00e9 featured on two tracks on Cowboy Carter<\/em>. \u201cI hope we just keep pushing forward opening doors,\u201d Bey said.<\/p>\n Going into the night, Beyonc\u00e9 was both the year\u2019s most-nominated artist<\/a>, with a whopping 11 nods this year, and the most-decorated artist overall in Grammys history, with 32 of the statues to her name. At the 2024 Grammys<\/a>, Bey\u2019s husband, Jay-Z,<\/strong> alluded to her overflowing trophy cases<\/a>\u2014with a notable exception\u2014from the stage while accepting the organization\u2019s Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone, and never won album of the year,\u201d he said, referring to his wife in the audience. \u201cSo even by your own metrics, that doesn\u2019t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn\u2019t work.\u201d<\/p>\n She even referenced her decade-and-a-half losing streak in the category, beginning with losing to Taylor Swift<\/strong> in 2010, on the Cowboy Carter<\/em> track \u201cSweet Honey Buckiin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAOTY, I ain\u2019t win (That\u2019s cool) \/ I ain\u2019t stuntin\u2019 \u2019bout them (Woo-woo) \/ Take that shit on the chin \/ Come back and fuck up the pen (Yeah),\u201d she sings.<\/p>\n Like a track from a previous album of the year winner, Alanis Morissette<\/strong>\u2019s Jagged Little Pill,<\/em> it\u2019s a little bit ironic\u2014don\u2019t you think?\u2014that Bey scooped up her first AOTY win for a project with that particular lyric.<\/p>\n Beyonc\u00e9 also scooped up the best country album award<\/a>, and another duo performance award she shares with Miley Cyrus<\/strong>. She is the first Black woman to win the Grammy for country album of the year.<\/p>\n Cowboy Carter<\/em> won the year\u2019s honor over albums by Andr\u00e9 3000,<\/strong> Sabrina Carpenter,<\/strong> Billie Eilish,<\/strong> Charli XCX,<\/strong> Jacob Collier,<\/strong> Chappell Roan<\/a>,<\/strong> and Taylor Swift. Swift, in a piece of historical symmetry, won Album of the Year for her Fearless<\/em> the first year that Beyonc\u00e9 was nominated in the category for I Am\u2026Sasha Fierce<\/em>. Swift, with four career Album of the Year Grammys<\/a>, most recently in 2024 for Midnights,<\/em> holds the all-time record for most wins in the category.
