Ice skater Maxim Naumov<\/strong>\u00a0is being cared for by a family friend \u201c24 hours a day\u201d after the loss of his parents, 1994 World Champions Evgenia \u201cZhenya\u201d Shishkova<\/strong> and Vadim Naumov<\/strong>, who died in the recent Washington D.C. plane crash.<\/p>\n

Friends of Naumov, 23, opened up to\u00a0People<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Sunday, February 2 about the young skater\u2019s day-to-day life since the fateful crash that claimed the lives of 67 people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know a couple who is with him right now,\u201d said Ekaterina \u201cKatia\u201d Gordeeva<\/strong>, a former teammate and close friend of Naumov\u2019s parents. \u201cThey weren\u2019t even in Washington yet, but \u2026 that morning [of the plane crash], we all connected right away, all the people from Simsbury.\u201d Simsbury is the town where Naumov lived with his parents.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFigure skater Maxim Naumov boarded a flight out of Wichita just days before his parents were killed when their American Airlines plane crashed into the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, January 29. Naumov, 23, competed at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita on Sunday, January 26, with his parents, Evgenia Shishkova and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The woman staying with Naumov \u201cis like a godmother to him, and she is with him right now there and her husband,\u201d Gordeeva also explained.<\/p>\n

Sixty-seven people, including 14 figure skaters, died in the crash<\/a> on January 29. The skaters were returning home from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Kansas on the American Airlines flight that collided mid-air with a military helicopter. The Skating Club of Boston sent 18 athletes to the competition, and CEO Doug Zeghibe<\/strong> said six members of the club\u2019s team members were killed. No one survived the crash.<\/p>\n

In addition to Evgenia Shiskova and Vadim, the team also lost Spencer Lane<\/strong>, his mother Christine Lane<\/strong>, and Jinna Han<\/strong> and her mother Jin Han<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
