According to Facts of Life<\/a> <\/i>alum Nancy McKeon<\/strong>, \u201cthere was a lot\u201d of focus surrounding the main cast\u2019s weight and body types.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach one of us had to deal with things in our own way,\u201d McKeon, 58, told Page Six<\/a> <\/i>in an interview published on Sunday, February 2, claiming that there were often discussions about the cast\u2019s diet plans and how much they should weigh.<\/p>\n

McKeon, who famously portrayed tomboy Jo Polniaczek on the nine-season sitcom, did not further detail the specific comments. Facts of Life <\/i>was initially set at the Eastland School for Young Women boarding school as caretaker Mrs. Garrett (Charlotte Rae<\/strong>) watched over students Blair (Lisa Whelchel<\/strong>), Tootie (Kim Fields<\/strong>), Natalie (Mindy Cohn<\/strong>) and, by season 2, Jo (McKeon). The beloved series, a spinoff of Diff\u2019rent Strokes, <\/i>ran on NBC from 1979 to 1988.<\/p>\n

Since many of the Facts of Life <\/i>story lines<\/a> centered around puberty and the Eastland students growing up, McKeon found it ironic that their weight was so heavily criticized.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMore than 40 years after its premiere, The Facts of Life is still giving Us something to talk about. The sitcom debuted on NBC in August 1979 as a spinoff of Diff\u2019rent Strokes. The Facts of Life aired for nine seasons, becoming one of the longest-running sitcoms of the \u201980s. Before the series came to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s so much development [during those years],\u201d McKeon told Page Six<\/i>, explaining that, at the time, she didn\u2019t want to voice any concern. \u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s called show business, it\u2019s a business, and they wanted what they wanted. But we\u2019re also human beings and the fact is everybody comes in all shapes and sizes and everybody needs to be represented.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThere is no one ideal [body]. There should be an embrace of every body.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whelchel, 61, faced similar pressures, claiming to Yahoo! Entertainment<\/a> in May 2023 that show producers encouraged her to attend a \u201cfat farm\u201d during the show\u2019s hiatus on three occasions.<\/p>\n
