Wendell Pierce<\/strong> used his CBS show Elsbeth<\/em> to support Suits<\/em><\/a> daughter Meghan Markle<\/strong><\/a> against public criticism.<\/p>\n

During the Thursday, January 30, episode, Elsbeth (Carrie Preston<\/strong>) is investigating a holistic wellness center after a patient is found dead in his car. Elsbeth immediately gets a bad feeling about the facility\u2019s founder (Eric McCormack<\/strong>) after getting the case assignment from Captain Wagner (Pierce).<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the meantime, I need you on a case. A young man, Cole Campbell, was found deceased on the highway. His car ran off the road,\u201d Captain Wagner said. \u201cThe last place he was seen was some fancy spa where celebrities and the royals go to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wagner poked fun at the wellness center\u2019s popularity, adding, \u201cThe global press was already trying to frame Meghan Markle, and she wasn\u2019t even there!\u201d<\/p>\n

Before starring on Elsbeth, Pierce, 61, played Meghan\u2019s onscreen dad in Suits<\/em><\/a>, which ran from 2011 to 2019. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, filmed her final scene for Suits in 2017 amid her engagement to Prince Harry<\/strong>. Meghan later departed the series, moved to the U.K. and married the Duke of Sussex, 40, in 2018.<\/p>\n

Pierce recently recalled the last time he filmed a scene<\/a> with Meghan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the last night of working and I said, \u2018Meghan, your life is going to change, and you\u2019re going to be in a bubble, but just always remember, no matter what, I\u2019m your friend, you have lots of friends,’\u201d he recalled on Who\u2019s Talking to Chris Wallace? in March 2024. \u201c\u2018We\u2019re always thinking about you, we\u2019ll always be there for you. And you know, no matter where you are, always know you have a friend in me.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry and Meghan\u2019s time in the U.K. was full of ups and downs and the couple made headlines in 2020 when they announced that they were stepping back from their duties as working members of the royal family. Harry and Meghan confirmed in February 2021 that they would not return to their senior roles and instead moved to California with son Archie, now 5, and daughter Lilibet, now 3.<\/a><\/p>\n

Meghan later revealed that the public scrutiny took a toll on her. \u201cI was like, \u2018All of this will stop if I\u2019m not here.\u2019 And that was the scariest thing about it. It was such clear thinking,\u201d she recalled in her and Harry\u2019s 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan<\/em>.<\/p>\n

At the time, Meghan \u201cwanted to go somewhere to get help\u201d but claimed she \u201cwasn\u2019t allowed\u201d to seek<\/a> treatment for her mental health. According to her husband, the royal family didn\u2019t want Meghan\u2019s personal issues to be a public topic of discussion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey thought, \u2018Why couldn\u2019t she deal with it?\u2019 As if to say, \u2018Well, you know, everybody else has dealt with it, why can\u2019t she deal with it?\u2019 But this was different. It was really different,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut actually, if you strip all that away and say, \u2018OK fine, it was exactly the same,\u2019 so do we still believe that she should have just sucked it up like other members of the family? Or does one think that maybe it\u2019s about time that we stopped?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
