Christy Carlson Romano<\/strong> had no plans to walk away from Special Forces<\/em><\/a> when agent Billy Billingham<\/a><\/strong> took her number \u2014 a.k.a eliminating her from the show \u2014 on the Wednesday, January 29, episode of the Fox series.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen my husband, who\u2019s a marine veteran, was training me, he basically said, \u2018You can go slow, but keep going. Don\u2019t quit.\u2019 The rules of this show changed,\u201d Carlson Romano began during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cI still love the show, but I think that the rules this season are a bit different because I\u2019ve checked with castmates from different seasons, and this third season, I really do feel like it was a bigger, badder, bolder season than the other seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Special Forces<\/em>, there are no votes or traditional reality show eliminations. Contestants typically stay on until they disobey orders, quit or are medically disqualified. Carlson Romano told Us<\/em> that she \u201canticipated never quitting\u201d and hoped to win the show based on her mindset. On Wednesday\u2019s episode, however, Billy declared that she was a \u201cliability\u201d as she struggled to keep up with the group during an uphill trek.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband said, \u2018Just stack the days,\u2019\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd I really thought I could go slower. Not that I wouldn\u2019t keep pushing myself because I was clearly pushing myself, but I just didn\u2019t think he would take my number. I was shocked that he took my number. I thought in the actual military, even if I was a liability, I feel like you can always build muscles. You can\u2019t build a mindset of somebody who doesn\u2019t want to quit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carlson Romano added, \u201cI should say I love Billy. I respect all the DS so much and they know I do. But I was shocked.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Us<\/em> caught up with Billingham and Rudy Reyes<\/strong><\/a> earlier this month, they explained that they \u201cwatch every single person\u201d on the show \u201cvery closely\u201d and feel confident that they know when it\u2019s time for them to go. \u201cAs soon as we realize they\u2019ve got out of this what they need, we will kind of encourage them to leave, we\u2019ll put more pressure on them,\u201d Billingham explained. \u201cSo they don\u2019t get hurt and they don\u2019t go too far, we\u2019ll take their armband. We monitor it very closely. It\u2019s all based on experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us<\/em> filled Carlson Romano in on their insight. \u201cThis is their course, this is their world, and we\u2019re just living in it,\u201d she replied. \u201cAnd you have to relinquish control over everything. And it\u2019s nothing like the actual military, but it is similar in that when you commit to the military, your body is the government\u2019s. As much as I was saying that autonomy was something that I was struggling with, I also was kind of at war with myself for being the perfectionist and being the people pleaser and just trying to do my best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Circling back to the hill that Carlson Romano \u201cdied on,\u201d she recalled fellow Disney alum Kyla Pratt<\/strong> opting out before the DS turned their attention to her.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOne lesson the stars of Special Forces: World\u2019s Toughest Test have learned is that rough living conditions can be just as tough to handle as the challenges. Celebrities are pushed to their physical and mental limits by undergoing military training on the Fox competition series. The show\u2019s first two seasons placed its casts in two [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think that as soon as I heard Kyla quit behind me, you could probably see a look on my face, like, \u2018F\u2014, they\u2019re going to come for me now,’\u201d she said. \u201cI was like, \u2018Now they\u2019re going to come for me and I have to be ready for them to say really mean things.\u2019 They were calling me a liability, they were calling me weak. I was like, \u2018That\u2019s OK. Tune it out, keep going.\u2019 I would envision my husband standing next to the DS telling me to keep going, and that kind of counteracted that. But day eight, you\u2019re calorically also really starving. You\u2019re meant to die out. And I\u2019m already kind of pretty thin and I have a pretty fast metabolism. And I was not eating, I was really stressed out. So I do think that that could have also been a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The week prior, Carlson Romano pushed through a task that required her to conquer her biggest fear \u2014 being buried alive.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey ask you what your greatest fear is, so when they put me in the coffin, I was like, \u2018This is my own doing. \u2026 the producers are slick,’\u201d she said. \u201cI thought that, maybe, I would be more relaxed when I got in there, but something about the way that the DS were reacting to it made me scared. Sometimes I would look at the DS and try to gauge how serious what we were doing was, and I think that they were kind of making it seem, like, this is a very serious thing to try to think about those who have fallen. \u2026 They did cut out me singing the Bluey<\/em> theme song for about 10 minutes straight. On top of that, I went into a full method acting and started to project myself back home making bacon and cinnamon rolls for my girls. \u2026 I think it might\u2019ve been a little too disturbing for television.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other aspect of the show is the mirror room, where the recruits get vulnerable with the DS. During her interrogation, Carlson Romano spoke about past issues with her mother, who was her manager during her Disney days<\/a>. The twosome didn\u2019t speak for a year over financial disagreements<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mom is supposed to come over tonight and watch this episode with me,\u201d the Even Stevens<\/em> alum told Us, adding that she sent her mother a clip of what will air. \u201cMy mom and I, like I said, it\u2019s in a complex relationship over the years, but she\u2019s in her late seventies and she just wants peace. And of course, I just want peace. We really do love each other, and I\u2019m so happy that in some ways the mystery is solved. It\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, this is the truth of my reality,\u2019 and it\u2019s actually the truth for a lot of young performers. I think I spoke very clearly and succinctly, and I think that\u2019s also because I have been advocating for this type of thing for years. And I do think that they brought out the best version of my story and I\u2019m really appreciative of the DS for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
