Lady Gaga<\/a> admits she was \u201cliving on the edge\u201d and is content with being “boring\u201d now.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n

The 38-year-old pop superstar \u2013 who got engaged to Michael Polansky in April 2024 after more than four years of dating \u2013 has admitted she would turn to drink and smoke \u201ca lot\u201d whenever she needed an \u201cescape route\u201d.<\/p>\n
She told the March 2025 issue of ELLE UK \u2013 of which she is the cover star \u2013 that: \u201cI used to drink a lot and smoke a lot, and I was always looking for an out. I used to call it the trap door. I used to be like, \u2018I need an escape route.\u2019 And I stopped doing that. And I actually started feeling it. Being present. As an artist, it\u2019s hard to go through that and not want to share that with my fans.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u2018Poker Face\u2019 hitmaker is the happiest she has ever been but admits things could have turned out for the worst if she had carried on living that way.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cSometimes, I worry people will say I\u2019m boring these days, but honestly, thank God I\u2019m boring. Thank God! Because I was living on the edge. I don\u2019t know what was going to happen to me living that way. So, the fact that I have these answers, on the one hand, I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh man, snooze fest!\u2019 But actually, I\u2019m so grateful. Because I found a sense of happiness and joy that is true to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe \u2018House of Gucci\u2019 actress \u2013 who puts on the persona of Lady Gaga \u2013 also shared that her future husband feels lucky to see the real Stefani Germanotta.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cHe used to say to me when we first met, \u2018You are a special human being when the cameras aren\u2019t on you. And I get to see that all the time.\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n
\nAnd Gaga \u2013 who will release her seventh studio album \u2018Mayhem\u2019 on March 7 – admits she wants to be her authentic self more instead of putting on an act all the time.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cI’m just trying to feel as in my skin as possible and not like I’m performing all the time. For me, I’m at a place in my life where I just want to feel like myself in clothes. Whatever that means. So if that’s changing, I just want to go with that feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHowever, she has no plans to drop her stage name.<\/p>\n
\nAsked if it\u2019s on the cards, she said: \u201cNo! I love being Lady Gaga. I love being me. I became a star when I was 20. Everything gets reflected back to you that this persona is what makes you special.\u201d<\/p>\n
