The Bachelor<\/em><\/a> star Grant Ellis<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 parents are his biggest supporters. During his run on Jenn Tran<\/strong>\u2019s season<\/a> of The Bachelorette<\/em>, the New Jersey native got candid about his relationship with his father, which has changed over the years amid his dad\u2019s struggle with addiction. Additionally, Grant revealed that his mom was responsible for kicking off his journey on The Bachelor<\/em> franchise.<\/p>\n Grant got candid about his father\u2019s struggle with addiction during The Bachelorette<\/em> season 21 in 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cMy father has been an addict for, like, 30 years. Addiction is a hard thing because, you know, growing up, my pops was everything, like, he was my superhero,\u201d he told Jenn, recalling how his dad would be intoxicated without Grant\u2019s knowledge during outings when he was a kid.<\/p>\n His dad ultimately decided to enter rehab after a job loss.<\/p>\n \u201c[He] checked into rehab, and ever since that, we had a talk and he was like, \u2018Listen, son. This is the first time that you know the real me when I\u2019m not intoxicated,\u2019\u201d Grant continued. \u201cSo I\u2019m, like, really leaning into that. So now, he\u2019s, like, a little under two months sober, so, you know, I hope he holds strong. And it\u2019s his first time living, too.\u201d<\/p>\n Grant concluded that his \u201cmission in life is to be the man that my father wasn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n Though it may have seemed on the show like his relationship with his father wasn\u2019t in a good place, the day trader revealed that it was quite the opposite during an August 2024 appearance on \u201cThe Viall Files<\/a>\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, I love my father to death, man, and he did the best that he could,\u201d Grant told host Nick Viall<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s his first time living too, and he has this trauma and he just took a certain route and I don\u2019t want him to ever think that I\u2019m, like, bashing him or putting him out there, but you know, this is, it\u2019s my life story.\u201d<\/p>\n Grant continued, \u201cAnd my relationship with my father is great. I\u2019m super proud of him for the progress he\u2019s made, where he\u2019s come from and what he\u2019s doing now. Yeah, I just want him to know that he did a good job.\u201d<\/p>\n Grant admitted that he \u201cdidn\u2019t always\u201d feel that way about his father.<\/p>\n \u201cGrowing up, sometimes you may harbor resentment, but then when you\u2019re in the position where you\u2019re letting somebody down, then you realize that you could be trying your hardest and sometimes you\u2019re gonna make mistakes. So looking back at it, I can\u2019t hold myself to a different standard than somebody that\u2019s let me down,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Grant concluded, \u201cSo it\u2019s like, I can\u2019t really be mad at my pops for that, I gotta just kind of let that go and just roll with the punches and just try to help him along his journey.\u201d<\/p>\n The former basketball player has his mom to thank for his Bachelor<\/em> journey. He revealed on \u201cThe Viall Files\u201d that she was the one who signed him up for The Bachelorette<\/em>, and his participation in the show ultimately led to him becoming the next Bachelor.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember she literally called me, I\u2019m in the middle of my trading routine in the morning and she called me, she\u2019s like, \u2018Oh by the way I signed you up for Bachelorette<\/em> so if you get a call, you know, make sure you answer,\u201d he recalled, explaining that she signed him up after she watched The Golden Bachelor<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Are you serious?\u2019\u201d he added. \u201cSo, they ended up calling me, and then, things just progressed. And here we are on \u2018The Viall Files.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Grant also celebrated his lead casting on The Bachelor<\/em> with his mom when he found out about the role.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m just calling to let you know I was selected to be the next Bachelor,\u201d he told his mother over the phone in an August 2024 promo video<\/a> for The Bachelor<\/em>.<\/p>\n His mom could barely contain her excitement on the other end of the call. \u201cNo way!
