Despite the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City<\/i><\/a> fangirling at the sight of him, IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden<\/strong> was left stumped after making an appearance on the Bravo reality series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Newgarden, 34, made a cameo on a November 2024 episode of the show, in which Bronwyn Newport<\/strong> treated the cast to a trip to an IndyCar race in Thermal, California, outside Palm Springs. Upon Newgarden meeting the Housewives at the track, Newport called him \u201cthe handsomest\u201d and cast member Lisa Barlow<\/strong> yelled, \u201cTake your shirt off!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The women even tried setting up Newgarden with single cast member Heather Gay<\/strong>, but were told Newgarden is married to his wife, Ashley Welch<\/strong>, and that the couple share 2-year-old son Kota<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t even know what was happening,\u201d Newgarden admitted in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly <\/i>\u201cI\u2019m serious, this is the way this stuff happens. We\u2019re at the track, we\u2019re at this race. Someone pops into our engineering office and they\u2019re like, \u2018Hey, there\u2019s some people that are here, there\u2019s some guests. Can you please come out and say hi?\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Newgarden continued, \u201cI came out and I said hi to everybody. They\u2019re like, \u2018They\u2019re going to film you, so don\u2019t worry about it.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018OK, no problem.\u2019 And then you don\u2019t hear anything about it for a couple months, right? And then I get all these texts when the show is on. I don\u2019t know this show. I have not seen it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The driver had \u201cno idea\u201d his interaction with the Housewives would be featured on the show, but called them \u201csuper sweet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After the episode aired, Newgarden joked about the surprising demographic that responded the most to his Bravo debut.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what was funny? You get texts from husbands,\u201d Newgarden said. \u201cIt\u2019s all men. Every text message was from a guy and they were like, \u2018I was watching with my wife,\u2019 or, \u2018My wife had it on TV and I noticed you were on there. That\u2019s kinda cool.\u2019 I got like 20 texts like that. I thought it was really funny.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of his newfound Housewives<\/i><\/a> fame, Newgarden is also the face of IndyCar\u2019s inaugural season on Fox, which officially kicks off on March 2. Newgarden is featured in a flashy commercial to promote the collaboration, which spotlights Newgarden\u2019s chiseled jawline and features an appearance from Tom Brady<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
