After Notre Dame\u2019s loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, head coach Marcus Freeman<\/strong><\/a> was blunt in his assessment of what went wrong.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re always making mistakes, but those type of detrimental mistakes when you play a really, really good football team cost you points,\u201d Freeman, 39, told reporters after the game on Monday, January 20. \u201cI think that\u2019s probably the biggest thing that has stuck out to me even in between series, the communication. \u2018Hey, we\u2019re good, we got it.\u2019 Well, we can\u2019t make mistakes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIt falls on my shoulders. And as the head coach, we have to prepare and be better prepared for this moment. These guys gave everything they got.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

During the game, Freeman was criticized for choosing to kick a field goal with his team down 31-15 in the fourth quarter instead of going for it on 4th and goal from the 9-yard line. Notre Dame kicker Mitch Jeter<\/strong> ultimately missed the 27-yard field goal. Ohio State won the game 34-23.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tNotre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman has never shied away from professing his love for his support system off the field: wife Joanna Freeman. Marcus and Joanna got married in 2010 after meeting while Marcus was a star linebacker at The Ohio State University. Along the way, they have welcomed six kids together: son [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI just thought instead of being down 16, let\u2019s try and go down 13,\u201d Freeman explained to reporters. \u201cI know it\u2019s still a two-score game, but you have a better probability of getting 14 points than you do 16 points. If it was a shorter 4th-and-goal situation, I probably would have gone for it, but I just felt that 4th-and-9 was not a great chance for us to make that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The couple met during Marcus\u2019 time at The Ohio State University, where Marcus was a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cNot many words you can say when you\u2019ve got a group like that that\u2019s hurt,\u201d Freeman said. \u201cI just told them I love them. I\u2019m so proud to be a part of this season with them. There\u2019s a lot of guys that are hurt. They gave it everything they had. We didn\u2019t get the job done tonight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
