They all described Meta\u2019s relationship with the outgoing Biden administration as incredibly hostile. It\u2019s safe to assume that Zuckerberg wants a reset for the MAGA regime, especially since Trump threatened not that long ago to imprison him for life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">In Trump\u2019s America, removing tampons from the mens\u2019 restrooms on Meta\u2019s campuses, \u2014 a real thing that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/10\/technology\/meta-mark-zuckerberg-trump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">just happened<\/a> \u2014 is as much a business decision as a political one. Destroying \u2018woke\u2019 ideology is a key pillar of Trump\u2019s stated mandate. Others who know they need to play the game, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2025\/1\/10\/24341016\/amazon-winding-down-dei-programs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like Amazon<\/a>, are also starting to fall in line. Even still, Zuckerberg is transforming Meta for this new political reality at a speed that\u2019s unusual for a company of its size and influence. Founder mode.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7k1ehaE0bdU&amp;themeRefresh=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conversation with <strong>Joe Rogan<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techpolicy.press\/transcript-mark-zuckerberg-announces-major-changes-to-metas-content-moderation-policies-and-operations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his video on Instagram<\/a>, Zuckerberg shares a laundry list of issues that Trump could help him with: fighting other countries that are ratcheting up their policing of his platforms, stopping Apple from dictating how he builds mobile apps and smart glasses (the latter is increasingly important to Meta\u2019s future), and, perhaps most importantly, keeping domestic AI regulation from slowing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/12\/13\/24320880\/meta-california-ag-letter-openai-non-profit-elon-musk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his efforts to crush OpenAI<\/a>. <strong>Elon Musk<\/strong> has bought Trump\u2019s ear. But the more time Zuckerberg spends in Mar-a-Lago, the more <strong>Sam Altman<\/strong> and <strong>Tim Cook <\/strong>should be worried.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Then there\u2019s the US government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/13\/24295637\/meta-must-face-ftc-antitrust-trial-instagram-whatsapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">case to break up Meta<\/a> that\u2019s set to go to trial in a few months. After the blur that was the last four years, it\u2019s easy to forget that this lawsuit was filed at the end of Trump\u2019s first term by a Republican FTC chair, not <strong>Lina Khan<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Most of the headline reactions from the past week have focused on Zuckerberg\u2019s decision to end Meta\u2019s third-party fact check program. It was a convenient scapegoat for company executives that, frankly, never lived up to the goal of bringing more neutrality to Facebook and Instagram. The decision to start recommending political content again is a 180-degree turn for Zuckerberg. Meta execs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/12\/3\/24311513\/meta-content-moderation-mistakes-nick-clegg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have been signaling<\/a> for a while that they know they are mistakenly removing too much content that doesn\u2019t actually break the rules; I\u2019m told it\u2019s one of, if not <em>the<\/em>, biggest complaint in user surveys. That\u2019s the situation with ByteDance and its founder <strong>Zhang Yiming<\/strong>, who stepped down from the CEO role after the last US ban attempt but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/tiktok-founder-zhang-yiming-has-a-formula-for-everything-can-it-crack-the-supreme-court-c40cb55d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">still controls the company<\/a>.
