\n\t\t<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n\t\t\tDoes everybody know what time it is? That was the famous phrase that came out of Home Improvement, the ABC sitcom that aired from September 1991 to May 1999. The 30-minute comedy followed Tim \u201cThe Toolman\u201d Taylor (Tim Allen) as he hosted a home-improvement show titled \u201cTool Time,\u201d even though he\u2019s not at all a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Allen and Thomas ended up reuniting on screen for four episodes of Last Man Standing<\/em>. Thomas also directed three episodes of the sitcom. While Thomas has remained out of the public eye, Allen continued to find success as America\u2019s favorite sitcom dad with his roles as Mike Baxter in Last Man Standing<\/em>, which ran from 2011 to 2021, and now Matt Parker in Shifting Gears<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n![\"Tim](\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Tim-Allen-Reveals-Whether-Jonathan-Taylor-Thomas-Could-Make-a-Shifting-Gears-Cameo-1.jpg?w=1000&quality=78&strip=all\")

I said, \u2018Have you talked to the girls [who play our daughters] over the summer?\u2019 Then there\u2019s this long pause and she goes, \u2018Tim, these aren\u2019t our daughters and I\u2019m not actually your wife,’\u201d he quipped. \u201cShe was so wonderful about it because sometimes when they were having trouble on the show, I\u2019d go, \u2018How do you think they feel?\u2019 And she would respond, \u2018Tim, they\u2019re actors. We just read [what is on the page but] she\u2019s not really that sad.’\u201d<\/p>\nOn Shifting Gears<\/em>, Allen plays a widowed father opposite an estranged daughter played by Kat Dennings<\/strong>. The duo gushed about how they \u201cimmediately\u201d formed a connection<\/a> once being cast on the show.<\/p>\n\u201cThe director wanted to see how we got along. It never stopped. The kismet was crazy. We\u2019re both born on the same day \u2014 many years apart,\u201d he told Us<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019re different in so many ways. But our attitude about comedy is very similar. She cracks me up and I\u2019m not easy that way. Kat can [deliver these lines] with a straight face. Her anger \u2014 that she played on 2 Broke Girls<\/em> \u2014 is very similar to the sharpness that Mike Baxter could get into now.\u201d<\/p>\nAllen continued: \u201cWhen we argue on screen, it\u2019s funny that we interrupt each other and it comes quite naturally. I don\u2019t know where it\u2019s coming from. I adore this person already. She and her husband [Andrew W.K.<\/strong>] are great people.
