As the Los Angeles wildfires<\/a> continue to cause devastation across the state, Governor Gavin Newsom<\/strong> invited<\/a> President-elect Donald Trump<\/strong>, who has railed against the handling of the crisis<\/a> without providing plausible alternatives, to view the growing destruction himself.<\/p>\n In a letter signed \u201cWith respect and an open hand\u201d that Newsom posted on social media on Friday, the governor gave Trump the opportunity to walk around the state, thank first responders, and \u201cmeet with the Americans affected by these fires.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIn the spirit of this great country, we must not politicize human tragedy or spread disinformation from the sidelines,\u201d Newsom wrote, pointing to how the former and future president has responded to the wildfires over this past week. \u201cHundreds of thousands of Americans \u2014 displaced from their homes and fearful for the future \u2014 deserve to see all of us working in their best interest to ensure a fast recovery and rebuild.\u201d<\/p>\n Newsom\u2019s olive branch comes as Trump has called<\/a> the governor \u201cincompetent,\u201d said<\/a> he should resign, and repeatedly referred to him as \u201cNewscum\u201d on Truth Social. On Wednesday, as neighborhoods were burning down<\/a> and tens of thousands of Angelenos were told to evacuate with little notice, Trump wrote<\/a> that the fires \u201cmay go down, in dollar amount, as the worst in the History of our Country.\u201d He also expressed concern about \u201cwhether insurance companies will even have enough money to pay for this catastrophe.\u201d<\/p>\n
